Mentally beat? Frazier had a below average chin vs. a big HW and was kicked around the ring by Big George like if he was a rag doll. No mind games necessary when Foreman could simple drop Frazier over and over and over again with a single punch.
Maybe a case of Joe thinking he was indestructible. Joe was a sucker for a right upper-cut. (see Manual Ramos) 'Big George' was like Harmon Killebrew that night, big right hand power.
Frazier, below average chin? Which Frazier are you talking about, Walt or Marvis because Joe Frazier doesn't have a below average chin. Foreman never landed the same uppercut clean shot on Ali that he did to Frazier. Maybe compared to Joe's overall toughness, his chin may seem weaker because he got up every time against Foreman.
Was Frazier mentally beat by Foreman == Was Wlad mentally beat by Sanders Both underprepared for a horrendous style match-up.
Joe Frazier could get knocked down, but he did get up. For a little guy to take those bombs from 'Big George' and still get up, 'truly an amazing feat'. The right uppercut for the second knockdown in Round 1, would have put any human flat-out. And Joe absorbed that blow, while badly hurt, and while "big George' was at 100% strength. No Joe had a good chin, without a doubt. Was he dropped by Oscar, YES, and wobbled a bit, YES. But his short stature, affected his defensive capabilities. He was only open, because he was offensive minded.
Only Joe Frazier could get knocked down six times and stopped within two rounds and still have others attempt to defed his ability to take a punch.Fact is,Foreman was the first and only puncher Frazier ever did fight.Foreman was a heavy puncher, but he was not connecting all that clean with his punches. The very first punch that put Frazier down was a grazing right uppercut. Frazier had a poor chin.No man gets knocked down half a dozen times in two rounds and have the right to claim a solid chin.I like Wladimir Klitschko, but I'll accept his punch resistance isn't very good. And,unlike Frazier,Wlad has actually fought more than one puncher since he was beaten by Sanders.
LOL, telegraphed super slow motion ? Who the F did he ever KO worth a lick ? No tier 1 period. Fact. I agree, Frazier's chin was not glass but not great. Foreman was one of the many to come super punchers and Frazier just did not have granite in it. Matching him with Tyson, Lewis, Bowe and the K brothers just to name a few would have been real ugly for him. Some of you gonna scream "he got heart he got heart" bla bla...............Gatti had heart.....Corrales had heart..........heart means **** when you are out powered with skill.
And Foreman's punches were fast and not telegraphed?? Anyway, it wasn't a question of speed or whom he KO'd or what tier he was on. The comment the poster made was that Foreman was the "first and only" puncher that Frazier ever fought. He wasn't.
Good point, Joe,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,did miss out on Mac Foster, Sonny Liston, Ron Lyle, Earnie Shavers Also, Ken Norton and Joe Luis Garcia, Leotis Martin, Larry Middleton
