I agree that Frazier was not at his peak. But even if he was at his peak, what would he have done? No matter how much he bobbed and weaved, Foreman was going to connect. Frazier liked to move forward, not backwards. And i cant see him moving backwards and avoiding foreman for more then 6 rounds. Foreman cut the ring off really well.

    Styles,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Smokin Joe could have fought Big George '10 times',,,,,,,with the same results.

Joe just didn't fight any other way,,,,,,,, but straight ahead.

Yeah, Foreman bigs up everyone, regardless of how easily he spanked them in the ring. He just tries to make Joe and Ken feel better about themselves because the losses were so embarrassing for them. Fighters have a habit of bigging up the guy they beat rather than the one they lost to.

Even the other night, Paul Ingle was asked who was the physically strongest guy he fought, and he said Junior Jones instead of Haseem Hamed. I honestly think he just said that to be different and go with the guy people wouldn't think he would name instead of more obvious choices.

George is a nice guy and no doubt he respects Frazier and tries to make Joe feel better. No way was Foreman "afraid" of Frazier. Watch the fights

Joe Frazier was a massive step up in class for Foreman, who had been feasting on third-rate fighters.
I'm sure George would have been at least a little bit anxious about this, if not outright fearful. Sometimes fighters give their most destructive performances with a bit of "fear" in them.

Frazier was probably way too overconfident and not fearful enough. He too was aware that Foreman was untested against top-flight fighters, and probably thought young George would fold under the pressure after a few rounds.

Q.What do you think Joe's mindset would have been in the rematch?

Joe's mindset in the rematch was to take George into the later rounds.
The problem was Joe was not the same after Manilla and all his other ring wars. He was too heavy for the fight and wearing contact lenses.
When they fell out, Joe just had a hell of a time. It's amazing that considering all this, Joe was close to getting Foreman into the later rounds. George was really breathing hard at the end.....

I watched that fight a few days ago.Aird was a few inches taller than Conteh, i'd say closer to six two than six foot.

George said Frazier was the only fighter that scared him on both times.

In Uniondale, it took Joe Louis to call him before the fight and boost his confidence because he didn't consider Frazier "a scenic rest stop."

amazing to think a guy who drew with aird (ted gullick) almost exposed george foreman in his next fight! It was foremans last real fight before facing frazier.

Could 'Smokin Joe' have made his bouts with 'Big George' any easier.

Same as Ken Norton vs. George Foreman, Earnie Shavers and Gerry Cooney.

Or Marvis Frazier vs. Larry Holmes (dropping his hands by his side)

No, he was just fat. Frazier weighed 10 pounds more than he did in his legendary win over Ali. He just lost his desire to win, thinkinhg he had beaten all the best fighters available. Foreman was considered a joke until he beat Joe.
