there was no demand for those fights. neither one of them was any more of a risk than the fights frazier took. Joe already beat the guys who beat them. quary wiped out most of them, joes sparring partner leotis martin took out liston. Ron stander Ko'd shavers. Garcia made the ratings for about as long as terry daniels. Besides, by the time those fights would have been viable for joe he was already an ex champion anyway, a part time fighter chasing ali in superfights.

As a champ frazier delt with the best out there. Dont you think quarry, bonavena ellis and ali were beter than foster and co at the time frazier fought them?

Having said that, for a resume point of view, I would have liked patterson and liston on fraziers record.

Joe Frazier could have met the following,
    1967; Thad Spencer
    1968; Leotis Martin
    1969; Sonny Liston
    1970; Mac Foster
    1971; Jose Luis Garcia
    1972; Ron Lyle
1973; Earnie Shavers or Ernie Terrell or Jeff Merritt
    1974; Henry Clark
    1975; Roy Williams
    1976; Jimmy Young
    1977; Scott LeDoux
    1978; Kallie Knoetzee

But there was a demand for Stander ,and Daniels ?
How about Ziggy? Big demand for that fight was there?
When did Daniels ,or Stander make the ratings?

As a champ he avoided giving Ali a rematch and kept away from several punchers he only met one, and got smeared.
    Get real here.

Larry Middleton could have filled a late-1971 or early-1972 slot.
He was clearly miles above Ron Stander or Terry Daniels.

Kenny Norton could have been a late-1974 or 1975 slot, but conflicting issues
    would have prevented this fight.

Joe Frazier was a 3-1 favorite over 'Big George'

I don't believe so. Frazier feared no man in the ring. I doubt fear was in his vocabulary. It's the old saying in boxing styles make fights. Frazier and Foreman could of fought 10 times and Foreman was gonna come out the winner. The brawler vs. the puncher. With Frazier's brawling style he was dead meat every time he fought Foreman. The only thing Frazier could of done to beat Foreman was not fight him. Foreman can punch through a brick wall and because Joe has to get inside, he's made to order for Foreman every time.

I don't think it was mental.

Frazier just got his ass beat. It was a terrible style matchup for Frazier, in addition to Frazier losing something after FOTC (where he almost died) and not being in the best condition.

Joe Frazier could have side-stepped George Foreman, as 'Big George' was rated #2.

But, there is no-way Joe was afraid of George. He wanted him, and was going after him,
to take him out in the 1st round.
As per the Sports Illustrated article several days before the fight.

Unfortunately, Joe had no reserve plan. It was like a baseball pitcher telling you he's
throwing you a 95 MPH fastball, right down the center of the plate.

Here it is,,,,,,,,now try to hit it.

I accept frazier had a very short peak and did not have very many fights but to fit all those fights in as well as the fights he did take is expecting an awful lot. Had he fought these as alternatives to who he did fight Frazier would have been slated for missing out ellis, ali and co.

Of the above fights IMO Frazier took beter opponents up to 1973 anyway. ellis, bonavena, quary and ali then foreman over shadow those listed from 67-73.

The other guys would have been tougher for him but may not beat bugner, older quarry or older ellis who frazier took. ali and foreman were way beter than the 73-78 bunch listed there.

He retired after the Foreman rematch. Why would he meet Young, LeDoux and Knoetzee?
