Arcel gets a lot of the credit, and he was truly great both in the ring and out. I'm just curious though, if Brown was more instrumental in making Duran who he became skill wise?
Alot of his skill was just natural, things that cant be taught. Duran had a kind of fighters 6th sense similar to james toney. I believe arcel's inflence was much stronger as a cornerman similar to dundee
I believe Brown had more impact on Duran`s actual fighting skills that he developed through the 70s. He worked and spent more time with Duran throughout his training camp. Arcel probably added a lot too also as fine a cornerman as there ever was. Freddie Brown I believe was responsible for some of Duran`s infighting finesse. I think it was his teaching`s more than anyone else. Ofcourse Duran had to have the ability and poised to execute it.
Duran himself gives the credit to Brown. He said Arcel for the most part came in 2 weeks befor the fight
Arcel and Brown were associated with hundreds of fighter that never made it. Durans' success was totally Duran. This business of trainers helping fighters is very over-rated.
