It blinded Cunningham to the big punch,it was illegal no question but if Cunningham or more so his corner as the lad himself was hurt had a problem with it they should have brought it up in the ring. It was pretty blatant and quite a bad foul if you watch it again,he not only blocks Cunningham's view he flicks his head back as well. Very surprised the ref didn't spot it.

 

Fury fought dirty all night. If he's a good as he seems to think he is and with all the advantages he had. He shouldn't have had to fight that way. But at the end of the day he's not. As soon as he steps up to fight a Klitschko. He'll get minced.

 

I thought straight away It was illegal but honestly Cunningham was done he would have been stopped around that point he was gassed out.

 

That was one me and my mate compared it with last night. Grant was in big trouble anyway but Lennox was lucky not to spoil a good performance with that foul. Don't know how much more Cunningham had left but he sure wasn't in as much bother as grant was v Lewis.

 

It didn't make any difference to the outcome though. Cunningham was ready to go at that point anyway.

Well I agree that kind of stuff goes on. But I would say that facepalm was at the far end of the acceptability spectrum. Especially because it covered Cunningham's eyes and pushed his head to a really extreme angle. Fury shouldn't have to resort to that nonsense against a 36 year old cruiserweight with no power.

 

People are making more out of it then it was, using your glove to block an opponents line of vision before following up with your other hand is an old pros trick. When done less blatantly commentators often pick up on it and praise a fighter for having the nous to pull it off. Usually it's employed in a different manner, a fighter will flick out a jab then flick out a second one and leave their glove in the face just long enough to confuse their opponent before following up with a right hand straight down the pipe. It's about as illegal as a rabbit punch, we all know those happen by both fighters in near enough every fight but people don't scream blue murder afterwards or call for a DQ.

 

Sure what could he say, his whole style was based on an illegal tactic (Holding)

 

Similar to Hopkins then who is often praised for his ring IQ and skill set and ability to control the pace of a fight, which usually means disrupting the other fighters rhythm by holding continually. All boxers do things technically outside of the rules to get an advantage but its not usually worth crying over unless its on the level of Bowe/Golota or they're using steroids.

 

Cunningham moved his head in against Furys chest, Fury was pushing him off, that happens a lot when a fighter leans in the other fighter uses the hand/forearm to push him off and create distance for a shot, it just looked a lot worse because the shot happened to knock a tired Cunningham out

The body shot just before this happened took a lot out of Cunningham. Fair play to Cunningham though he gave a good effort and a decent interview afterwards

 

I felt really sorry for him when he was on the canvas and it was obvious he wasn't getting up, he is a genuine nice guy of the sport, my reaction was that I felt good for Fury but sad for Cunningham because this fight meant a lot to him, he was crying after he got back up, and you could still see it in the interview
