I thought it looked like a foul alright, he pushed cunninghams head back and to the left, before smashing him with a right hook, that he couldn't see coming.

I actually thought the punch that KO'd price was similar, (where Thompson held prices head with his left hand and ko punched with his right).

It was a rough enough fight though, Cunningham hit Fury a couple of times after the bell, rabbit punches and I think I remember a low blow that was unnoticed/unmentioned by the ref, at the end of the day it's boxing, and **** like this happens, Fury got a bad scare from the knockdown, and did well to come back and dominate the later rounds. It looked like Cunningham was ****ed by that point anyway, and was a KO waiting to happen.

 

Richardson whinged about it during the Mosely-Mayweather fight too. Shane had bigger issues than Floyd's forearm - namely his jab.

Yes was defo illegal cannot deny that, however as other people have mentioned, it goes on all the time in boxing, mayweather and hopkins are classic examples.

 

This is professional boxing, he broke no rules. Remember when Lennox Lewis held Frank Bruno's head in place, before he detonated a right uppercut..? That's the type of violence that elite boxers must train for, and be ready to deal with.

This is not amateur boxing.

I remember hatton fighting maussa I think it was and he got cut and maussa was rubbing his thumb in the cut, the ref pulled them apart to warn him and hatton let him have a little shot in return. No points deducted they just carried on, same as when Tsyzu hit him low and gave him one back. That's boxing, you have to get your hands dirty and if it gets rough then so do you. Remember calzaghe and sheika? The great fighters can mix it up and sometimes roughing housing your opponent is a genuine tactic, dont remember Barrera being slammed after the hamed fight of Duran after he beat Leonard!

I'm sorry, but you can't conflate Cunningham & Richardson. Richardson might not have a leg to stand on, but the idea that Cunningham shouldn't complain because other American fighters have form for this same offence is absurd. He can't be held accountable for the actions of others.

 

It was a cheap shot if im honest but Cunningham was done. There was a bodyshot Fury landed which got to him.

 

Was it a foul? Yes.

The fact was Cunningham was already hurt and in this instance it wasn't the forearm but the glove covering the face of Cunningham who was turning away in what i felt was a sign of surrendering the fight. I feel it would of been finished that round anyways he seemed gone to me. Drained physically and mentally IMHO..

Have we seen this done before? Yes.

Where? Well as mentioned Mayweather used the forearms across Hatton's face. A way of blinding him but also a smart ploy to test the facial wear and tear of Hatton.

Lennox Lewis for all his qualities was a dirty fighter at times with pulling down fighters heads and using uppercut as he cupped the opponents head.

Selby sparked Smith covering his face. Johnny Nelson's world title reign featured many nights of him standing with his glove in opponents face.

It happens, Cunningham used his forearm at one point so he indulged in foul play himself which is cool it was a rough tough fight and that's the way to beat Steve who i'm a fan of and seen him fall apart before. Fact is we've seen it done before, Will see it again and won't be mentioned unless it's someone we love or hate.

But, as has been said, that's the kind of brutality needed in professional boxing.
And to be a good heavyweight it helps to be a brute.
Lennox Lewis did much more severe fouls (eg. versus Michael Grant). So did Foreman, Holyfield, Tyson, Marciano, Dempsey etc.
