Was Gary Russell's 'weight drained' excuse vs Loma the worse excuse ever?

Gary Russell fought Lomachenko in 2014, he weighed in at 125 1/2 lbs, same as Loma.

Russell has continued to fight at 126 lbs weight class for the next 4 years since this fight, while Loma has slowly worked his weigh up to 135 lbs now.

If anyone should have been drained, surely it would be Loma, not the little midget who still fights in the same division he was 'weight drained' in 4 years ago?

Gary Russel is a tremendous talent, but underachiever. His mouth never stops running.

They blamed everyone they could, as long as they didn't have to face reality.
    "I would beat Loma 99/100".

    Manny Pacquiao (take your pick):
    - My socks
    - “I didn’t have my clitoris gloves”
    - Cramps
    - Blood test made me weak
    - My shoulder was injured before the fight
    - I actually injured my shoulder during the fight since people are suing me

    Duran:
I ate two hot steaks then drake cold water

There’s been worse excuse makers, trust me.

Well, that was not that he was weight drained (that's a common excuse) but that they had a bad conditioning coach who made him go to sauna:

“Leading up to the fight, we were in a sauna for the past two, maybe three days leading all the way up into the fight. That’s what my [previous] strength and conditioning coach wanted me to do,”

Well, this yes - probably the worst excuse I've ever come across. He actually was physically conditioned well, took a lot of terrible body punches throughout the fight but nonetheless managed to throw 806 punches, and actually, simply by being a busy guy in the ring, convinced some people that the fight was close.
