Was George Foreman REALLY any better than the likes of Sam Peter?

He didn't have better punch resistance he only folded to Ali and Young because he gased and didn't pace himself well early in his career. And Foreman himself said Ron Lyle was in the top 3 hadest punchers he ever fought and that includes the likes of Savarese, Holyfield, Morrison, Briggs and Cooney

Size matters but to you it matters too much. I saw in another thread that you think Aj vs prime Lewis is a 50/50 fight just because Aj is bigger lol even though he's not.

Foreman's success lay in how well he controlled the ring, not in his punching power per se. In terms of raw power Peter might have hit as hard as Foreman (I mean that in all sincerity) but he was useless at actually making that power count, while Foreman was a master at cutting off the ring and forcing fighters onto his punches. Foreman would use awesome punishing jabs, two handed push offs and various wrestling manoeuvres to keep fighters on the backfoot till he could get them against the ropes, then would maul and bludgeon them with uppercuts and bodyshots till they were tenderised to the point of quitting or walking into a big left hook or clubbing right hand. Simple but brutally effective. Peter was more like Shavers in his approach, though he really only had one or two good fights in his entire career where he showed any degree of craft. The rest of the time he was like a clueless caveman just clubbing away with heavy arm punches (which were no doubt very hard but often easy to read or shut down to anyone with a bit of skill).

I liked this despite not believing that Samuel Peters hit anywhere near as hard as George Foreman. Ever.

Wasn't too dissimilar a slugger to the likes of Peter tbh but that's because Foreman didn't need ring craft, nobody could take his power. Comeback George was more rounded.

I have not yet gone through all the outraged posts, but people should be ecent. I hope you were not banned merely for avocating for an unpopular opinion, that would be immoral.

However, just on the surface I see clear bias.
In many less fights, & all before his 40's Peter was KOed 6 times.
If it only happened to Foreman once, when he was exhausted vs. Ali, how on earth can you give that edge to Peter?

Funny how well it holds up. Foreman would murder Fury and Joshua and Deonky, etc...

Dude how can you be so critical of Foreman & STILL put him in the top 5 H2H? Something does not compute.
Some of these complaints are fair.
Others not at all: before he fought Foreman Lyle fought & beat some World Class HWs with great records. Peralta, Bonavena, Kirkman & just before Shavers among others!
Everybody fights some lesser fighters, especially when first coming up & fighting frequently.

Also: it was nearly 5 years between fighting Foreman & Cooney-a looong time in boxing: & Lyle who started boxing very late was just shy of 40!

This analyses was not balanced or objective.
But tell me about the opponent who had to be carried out, who that was & what you mean.
And i am unaware of peralta knocking him down at the bell?

Wilder hits far harder than the older slower fisted fatter Foreman and AJ is a better finisher than the older Foreman, George would need to be in his prime to beat a top 5 heavyweight in today`s game. AJ and Wilder both would have destroyed Stewart easily.

Quick out of range jab from George 4:29 Another quick jab 4:46, good hand speed Lyle slips quick jab 4:37 heavy jab to body 4:51 First jab that Foreman lands 5:02 Double jab by Foreman at hook off a jab by George soft jab 5:28 sharp jab things heating up 5:32 tame jab 5:35 1-1-2 by George, that`s the difference between 70`s George and Peter despite Foreman being badly hurt by Lyle in that first round.
