I've never seen Baer - Carnera, that was so so long ago, it's probably nowhere to be found..

Morrison against Foreman, was similar to a baseball pitcher throwing a no hitter, everything Morrison did that night worked, he fought a near perfect fight and was on his game that night:deal..

Too bad he spent the next 4 months drinking, partying, etc, and got knocked out by a guy who was the equivalent of one of his sparring partners...

I'm not sure I understand the question... Baer beat the **** out of Carnera and stopped him. Morrison ran from Foreman because he knew if Big George hit him clean it would either K him TFO or change the course of the fight instantly. I give Tommy credit for sticking to his fight plan, it was a good win even though I think Foreman took him lightly.

I don't think Foreman was Italian, Tommy. Not even Sicilian.

The thread is absurd Heavy_Hands, but no need to be vicious.

Why be cruel just because someone does not know the facts? Would you want to be treated this way?

Does it buy you any respect or peace to be a cyber-bully? Did this guy abuse YOU?

Let us be decent adults here.

If Morrison had knocked Foreman down about 12 times and beat the **** out of him every round it would have been similar.

Actually, Michael Bentt was the most accomplished U.S. amateur heavyweight leading into the Olympic Trials. He went undefeated over a four-year period, won everything as an amateur and was supposed to represent the U.S. at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul ... but he was upset in the Trials and Box-Offs by Ray Mercer. The losses to Mercer shocked everyone in the amateur boxing world. Then Bentt turned pro and was stopped in his debut.

All in all, it was one terrible period for Bentt. But he rebounded. Won 10 fights in a row, and then destroyed Morrison. It should be noted that, in the amateurs, Bentt "owned" Morrison. And he "owned" him when they fought in the pros.

Whoever picked Bentt for Morrison to defend his WBO belt against committed a HUGE mistake.

There are instances where guys beat someone in the amateurs and then later, in the pros, the guy who previously lost turns the tables (like Tyson against Tillman).

But more often than not, if one guy beats another repeatedly in the amateurs, when they turn pro, the same thing happens. Or, if one guy is the top dog on an amateur team, and everyone on that team knows it, that carries over when they turn pro.

You see that even today with guys like Andre Dirrell, his brother Anthony, and Andre Ward. Ward was the top dog on that amateur team. The Dirrell brothers will never fight Andre Ward. They don't even pretend like they could beat him in the pros. Andre Dirrell even "bowed out" of the Super Six rather than facing Ward - who he was scheduled to meet before he had dizzy spells.

When you bring up Andre Ward to the Dirrells, that's how Morrison looked when he faced Bentt. Bentt was "THE" man in amateur boxing when Morrison competed there, Morrison still viewed Bentt that way when he stopped in the ring with him as a pro.

Same thing happened about 10 years or so ago, when Juan Carlos Gomez rose to the top 2 at heavyweight, and was in line for a title shot. Some genius matched him against Yanqui Diaz, who was one of the top dogs on the Cuban team just under Felix Savon when Gomez was an amateur. Diaz obliterated Gomez inside one round - to everyone's surprise (BUT GOMEZ).

Long story short, Michael Bentt wasn't just some sparring partner.

I never realized Bentt beat Morrison as an amateur:huh..

Morrison obviously took Bentt lightly, partied too much and came into the ring with a slight gut, and assumed Bentt was going to be just another day at the office, NOPE, it's his own fault he was KO'D...

What gets me is Bentt riding high after Morrison went over to the UK, AND WAS BEATEN TO A PULP, by a little 205lb Herbie Hide, Bentt should have whipped his ass...

To bad Morrison and Bentt never met again, if they would have I would have bet a weeks pay Morrison would have knocked him cold...:dead
