Everyone concedes that GGG hit hard. What I and others reject is the notion that Golovkin had unprecedented power. He didn't.
But sparring rumors are just that, Lance, and we've both been around the block enough to know and trust what our eyes are telling us when those punches actually count. Did GGG have terrific power? Yes. No argument there. What he didn't have, however, is unprecedented power, despite what his fans might think.
Golovkin was definitely an avoided fighter, which you could argue is synonymous with fear. But so were guys like Rigondeaux, except people associate the fear more with GGG because of his KO nature. Sturm, Kid Chocolate, Cotto, Canelo (for years), Chavez Jr, Saunders...are some names that avoided him.
Yeah, and those he sparred with said it. SOme were HWs, some CWs, LtHWs... Wasn't fans making those claims.
Like I said, I'll base my judgment on the punches he threw that actually counted. You're free to do otherwise. Not my concern or problem. GGG hit very hard. Period. His power wasn't unprecedented.
Did you miss your own point? You were trying to say it was the fans making these claims. Was just clarifying his sparring partners started them.
I never said fans originated those rumors, Lance. Rather they repeated and/or believed them. And what did his heavyweight sparring partners claim? Remember, I specifically cited heavyweights. Did they state he hit hard? I already knew that. I just found/find it difficult to believe that a guy who purportedly battered heavyweights in headgear and who supposedly had unprecedented power couldn't stop Danny Jacobs or even dent Canelo. Is it your position that GGG had unprecedented power?? If so, I certainly don't agree.
This you? The problem is, YOU'VE elevated his power yourself into something historic with use of hyperbole for purpose to attempt to discredit or question. Why should fans question one who actually tasted his power? But really....who cares.
Yeah, it's me...not GGG stans who elevated his power to near mythic proportions. Ok, guy. Lol But you're right--who cares.
And back to sqaure one, and your biggest weird beef about his punch. It was 3G stans who made those claims...not sparring partners, right? Jusu messin with you. Found this a little hurmorous is all.
How is it a weird beef? I simply made a comment on a GGG thread. It's not as though I've made a practice of discussing the matter. Moreover, you initiated our discussion, not the other way around. You're far more invested in carrying water for GGG than I am in "discrediting" him. Again, show me the heavyweights who he battered and who just couldn't take his power. But you're right. No GGG fan ever overestimated or exaggerated his power. Only me. Now that is comical.
How am I right about that statement when I've never said or claimed it. You're trying too hard to make a point you can't prove or disprove. But you are welcome to challenge those who stood in the ring with him regarding his power. I'm sure can find them on IG or X. About that HW....use google and do it yourself. It's called research. It's a good thing.
I'm trying too hard to make a point....and what point would that be?? Do you even know?? Since you seem to be confused, I'll slow down and reiterate: GGG had excellent but not unprecedented power. Get it now? Are you suggesting that he did? If so, say so. And if you are, what are you basing it on? Sparring partner talk or what happened in the ring? But if my "point" can't be proven or disproven, as you claim, and the matter is entirely subjective, the same would hold true for your "point" (such as it is) as well, no?? So of what value would "research" be if a point can neither be proven nor disproven? Bet that sounded real witty in your head when you were typing it though, huh? By all means, do tell about the virtues of research. I'd love to hear it from a real expert.
Dude....I'm suggesting you take up whatever mythical power he might have with those who went in the ring with him and talked about how hard he hits. Has absolutely f*ck all to do with fans, since they aren't the ones who started it. Fair enough?
