Was gonzalez genuinely injured...or utterly gassed?

Burns in the interviews said they had a few fights on him. I doubt very much that in those fights Gonzalez was just displaying himself as a slugger with no skill. You don't just suddenly develop the stuff that Gonzalez was showing tonight. So the excuse of them not knowing he would be that good otherwise they would have come up with a different plan, doesn't hold up, I'm afraid. Gonzalez wasn't someone they dragged in at short notice two weeks before the event. They prepared for him.

He didn't look gassed to me. His demeanor COMPLETELY changed after the 7th, and he dominated that round. Didn't appear to be throwing an inordinate amount to get the stoppage either, I thought he was pretty reasonable in rd7.

I want to see the xray, but I'm pretty sure it was a legit injury. He was dropping bombs on Burns face and body. Wouldn't be surprised if he punched Burns in the elbow and ****ed his wrist that way.

Nice try, but I found at least 3 or 4 youtube videos that showed him to be a pinpoint counterpuncher who fights mostly off the back foot and is extremely hard to hit :good

Stood to win 450 if he won the decision.

Ended up losing 500 between that fight and Mcdonnell

To me, he gassed himself out. Might he have broken his hand, maybe, won't know unless there are x-ray/scans to show it. But while I was watching him pound Burns in that 7th round, I said to myself "Dude, slow the **** down, you're going to gas out." But he just kept throwing hard punches and wouldn't slow down. 8th round comes and I see him not throwing hardly anything, I said it "Dumbass gassed himself". He was still gassed at the end. Too bad for him but he only has himself to blame.

Yeah, this guy has KO power, Vasquez does not - Power had a lot to do with this fight, everyone was like the Gonz has Punchers chance, no one knew he could box like that

This was my thoughts also mate, Burns tactics were set up to fight a slugger they didnt realise the boys boxing skill, says midway through i was Burns would stop fighting like a Klitschko victim and just have a tear up.

I reckon skill, counterpunching, punch-variety and elusiveness had much more to do with this fight. That's why when he hurt Burns, I was thinking: yeah, that's nice, but stick to your boxing - that's what's winning this fight for you. Vasquez is just as slippery and awkward has him, but being more experienced, he wouldn't have made his mistake of punching himself out.

Ricky Burns has the heart and the mindset of a champion.

Gonzalez has long arms and he's well-schooled, but sometimes that's not enough.

In round 7, Gonzalez ran into the stone wall of Ricky Burns determination to win, and couldn't get through it.

    Hurt.

He wasn't gassed as he wasn't breathing heavy nor was he holding his arms low.

His heart wasn't broken as he was still standing in front of Burns, blocking 90% of Burns' shots.

It seemed he hurt his left, not his right, so he probably couldn't keep jabbing. With Burns coming on strong, and no jab, maybe he decided it was too dangerous to try & ride out the fight. Hard to say.

it also seemed that he was having trouble with his leg as well.

The most telling thing is that they didn't interview Gonzalez after the fight. It's much easier to pretend that homeboy Burns "broke his heart" if you don't give him a chance to refute it.

Gonzalez seem comfortable switching stances earlier in the fight too which you'd think would help him get through 3 rds with one hand.

As for the interview, Burns seemed to indicate during his interview afterwards that Gonzalez was already on his way to have his injury checked out so Sky might not have had the chance to speak to him. Their commentary is **** tho.
