Oscar was coming off a KO win over Mayorga, and was Floyds 6th title in his 5th weight class. Oscar was bigger, stronger and arguably just as skilled as Floyd was. Hernandez only loss prior to Floyd was against Oscar at 135, a fight many feel was even until Oscar broke his nose. Hatton even near his prime was not as good a fighter as either of these gentleman. Floyd visibly struggled with Oscar far more then he did Hatton. Clearly better wins on hsi resume then Hatton.
Agree, no disrespect to Chavez "at that stage" - even myself was deceived believing he's an elite fighter then. So i acknowledge his quality, but fast forward now, he's still (or end up) not in the league of Hatton.
You are trying way too hard to discredit FMJ. And as a result, you are making yourself sound very ignorant.
Mayorga will pulvorize Hatton to dust. Happy now? However, Hatton has a better resume or will rank highter HOF-wise.
Mayorga has two victories over Vernon Forrest. Nothing on Hatton's resume even comes close to that. For real, dude, you are trying WAY too hard.
Floyd said it was his toughest fight.....so yea...based on Floyd saying it and how the fight went, who is anyone to disagree. Floyd won...and he was winning the majority of rounds, but he really didn't land anything damaging on Floyd throughout the entire fight. He was just outworking him b/c Floyd's offense was kind of smothered. It definitely wasn't Floyd's best performance but it was one of Rickys for some reason. I personally feel JLC and DLH were much more difficult...not really on a physical level but on a tactical and strategic level.
Well if Mayorga was fighting the level of comp Hatton was fighting that wouldnt be the case now would it? Mayorga had to swim with Oscar, Tito, Mosley, Forrest and Spinks. And gave a good account of himself in every fight save the Oscar one. If Mayorga got to fight the welterweight equivalent of a faded Zoo, Castillo, and the likes of Urango, Mausa, and Tackie, then his career would be a different story. Point being, Oscar was a better fighter then Hatton at that stage in his career and the more accomplished over all, thus Oscar > Hatton.
Floyd says it was a tough fighter. Not his toughest. I believe he cited Emmanuel Augustus as his toughest fight.
I never said he was the best, I said he is one of the best, which he is. I don't think you even know who you are quoting half the time.
