At 140 Cotto wins a close classic.

At 147 Cotto stops him around 7.

    Just too big for Ricky.

No contest for me. Cotto all day, just the better fighter. He fought and beaten the better quality opposition. Only 2 fighters have managed to beat him. The best on the planet, and a man who more than likely had bricks in his gloves.

Up until Hatton fought Tszyu, he'd pissed around at WBU level. Notice as the quality of opponent improved, the 'body punching' signature moves stopped, the fighters got wise. Also, the lack of discipline began to tell. The 2 times he got the chance against the real elite, he was brutally exposed.

I think I actually remember Cotto calling Hatton in late 2005.

Cotto is/was just better, all there is too it.

It was probably talked about, but in all fairness Cotto would have smashed Hatton.

I disagree! Cotto struggled badly for his last few fights at 140lbs to make weight, but for the first time in his career at 140lbs, Hatton would be in there with a man who was stronger & the same size as him on fight night, if not bigger!

Cotto came back from the brink against Torres. Cotto would hurt Hatton & would finish him!

Cotto was interviewed about it on ringside (not live in studio) and he said he was willing to fight Ricky but Hatton said he wasnt ready. Same thing with PBF right after the Tszyu fight he said he wanted to get another couple of fights under his belt 1st and Floyd then moved up to 147

You remember an actual calling out? WOW!! That seals it then.:good

(Did they decide who was holding the coats or whether the scrap would be in dinner time or after school?)

I always thought prime Hatton would overcome Cotto at 140 but not at 147.

Was it an official call out with a black and white HD video too?

At the time wasn't Cotto considered a little fragile at 140 and people were a little taken aback by how strong and resilient he was when he moved up to Welterweight?
That's how i remember it...but then i'm a ****ing degenerate so i could well be wrong. :nut

At the time the fight was being touted i'd have favoured Hatton at 140... Cotto would have murdered him at 147 though...Hatton definitely didn't fancy a Cotto fight up at Welterweight

On a different note, whatever happened to Kelson Pinto?
I remember he was being talked up a lot before Cotto beat him (was touted as a potential Hatton opponent as well iirc?)

You really think Hatton would have time to fight during Dinner time?
