Was Hatton vs Cotto ever in the works ?

Hatton beats him at 140. Cotto at 147

 

At 140, around the time that the fight was touted, I'd fancy Hatton by late TKO or on points in a tough and gruelling fight.

At 147, Cotto by TKO.

 

With the exception of the Kostya fight, thought Hatton looked more than beatable at 140lbs. the way the 2 of them handled Maussa in their 140lb days is a big thing for me. Cotto was is just a lot better boxer

 

Personally don't care what weight cotto KO for me late rounds.

 

This 'Hatton wins at 140, Cotto at 147' bull**** is so annoying. As long as it isn't the Cotto that turned up against Malignaggi he'd have been healthy enough. That was the straw that broke the camels back, he wasn't always that unhealthy.

 

Cotto didn't like fighting at pace even when he wasn't weight drained (one of the reasons Paulie lasted the distance). Hatton 2004-2006 is a very close fight at 140, any later and Hatton was probably starting to slide, the fight would have to be at 147 and Cotto was the better welterweight.

 

It really is, Cotto's world class, he's beat much better opposition than Hatton, proven himself in a more competitive weight class. Hatton was a one-dimensional pub fighter riding off a good win against a faded champion.

He wouldn't of been fighting at a pace by the time he'd worked Hatton's body over. Hatton never had any body work his own body over, Urango was not consistently working the body but he took it right out of Hatton with a couple punches so a focused Cotto could have severly cut him down. Not to mention Cotto is much more skilled. Hatton would be eating shots on the way in, hurtful punches, and even when he got close he'd be dealing with a commited body puncher. Wrestling and mauling ain't going to save him just because Cotto struggled towards the end of his 140 tenure...the task is too big. Hatton never showed up with the same ability to walk through anything post-Tszyu.

 

Jesus christ, people whine about people saying Hatton at 140 and then come out with "Hatton was a pub fighter."

We must produce **** boxers if Hatton was a "Pub fighter." He was world class.

 

Pub fighter was obviously an exaggeration, but he was well managed by Warren. Not put in with Cotto, scared of Witter too. Chose shítty fights against people like Maussa and Lazcano instead.

I just don't like this fallacy that Ricky Hatton is some sort of future HOFer who ruled the 140 division with an iron fist for 4 years.

I remember seeing Hatton say he thought Cotto was over-rated and that he wouldnt handle a top class pressure fighter.
