I've heard a lot of people say that this was such a bad decision that Hearns didn't get the win, does anyone think the backlash is a bit exaggerated, granted he did have 2 knockdowns on Leonard but Leonard had Hearns in trouble a lot during the fight. I mean I would probably give the edge to Hearns but it was a really close fight.
Close fight I thought Hearns controlled the first 3 rounds and scored a knockdown. Leonard won 4,5. Six was close I scored hearns. 7th round was close again as Leonard was out on his feet but rallied big in second half of round I gave Leonard. They split 8-9. And tenth was close I gave Leonard. 11th hearns 10-8 with knockdown. 12th Leonard either 10-9 or 10-8 as one judge had it. I had it - 114-112 hearns.
It was a robbery in that there's no way at all you could score it for SRL and a draw is the wrong side of fair as well. Allowing for fluctuations in opinion and what people see i'd expect to see about 9 unbiased experts scoring for Hearns out of 10 with maybe the tenth having a draw. Maybe.
Of course Hearns got screwed! Do you think that if Leonard floored Hearns 2 times in the fight that it would have been called a draw? Hell no!!
Yes. Rd 1 - 10-9, Hearns Rd 2 - 10-9, Hearns Rd 3 - 10-8, Hearns Rd 4 - 10-9, Leonard Rd 5 - 10-9, Leonard Rd 6 - 10-9, Hearns Rd 7 - 10-9, Hearns Rd 8 - 10-9, Hearns Rd 9 - 10-9, Leonard Rd 10 - 10-9, Leonard Rd 11 - 10-8, Hearns Rd 12 - 10-9, Leonard 115-111, Hearns
Well put. And that my dear fellow is exactly what makes the decision a robbery. Judges are " supposed " to be unbiased.
