Judging by Snipes' response, youd certainly think that it was stopped early. Christ, Howard Cossell couldn't even get a post fight interview out of him, without practically getting decked himself. After examining that stoppage closely on a number of occasions, I think Snipes could have been afforded the opportunity of going a little bit longer, but with some of the shots he was taking, the referee would still have had to stay close by.
He got up and tripped. Right when Snipes got to Larry they started slugging and Larry beat him at it. Where as Snipes laid back and did nothing when he got hurt.
I hate standing 8 counts. It's not the refs job to interfere on the boxers behalf and prolong the fight. IF the boxer feels it is necessary he should use his intelligence to take an 8 count. He can use this chance to survive longer. The ref should not be helping the fighter to survive or register a tkd. If the fighter doesn't choose to take a knee then he'll keep getting punished and the refs job is to stop the bout. I don't like 8 counts.
