The 1st fight may not've been a draw, but the 2nd one...VERY strong argument for that fight being a draw.

Infact, the majority of ringside media scored the fight for Holyfield in the 2nd fight.

Hard to tell because Holy was always inconsistent as a heavy, with some ludicrous excuses every time he lost.

It's hard to tell if he lost because he was past his best, or simply lost to someone better on the night, which is why I pisstakingly call him three primes Holyfield.

His fans seem to say "he was prime, then had hepatitis, then great again, then had a heart issue that Benny Hinn fixed, then lost because he didn't ko Lewis when God told him he would (or was it shoulder/bicep/age)."

Seriously though, Holy was a lot like Lewis on that as their physical abilities just lost a touch, their ring knowledge and experience more than made up for it, making them probably more complete fighters.

What was the story with the heart issue? Strange.

I see somebody on NBC gave him an interview in London and did not recognise him. Regular Joe Holyfield! :yep

Anyone remember Holyfield as the greatest Cruiserweight ever? The man was exceptional.
As a fantasy match Holyfield vs Ezzard Charles would have been a good scrap.

Evander was physically well past his best as early as 1995 from all the crap he put his body through, illness/injuries, and the ring wars, but he evolved into a different...smarter fighter at this point, using physical power and crafty dirty boxing to defeat Tyson and Moorer to become the number one HW in the world when Lewis beat him. Ha, as mentioned it wasn't really a draw. :D

Holyfield still got two big wins against Ruiz and Rahman well after the Lewis fight. He even did much better in the rematch, stealing the fight on some people's cards. Though slowed down, he still matched up very well against guys he could bully on the inside, but the shoulder injury against Byrd finally ended his days as a top Heavy.

Lewis was past his prime when he fought Vitali, Holyfield was considered past his prime when he fought Mercer and Tyson.... amazing he was able to get in a win over Moorer in their rematch, was able to figure out Vaughn Shake and Bake Bean...

The draw was a slap in the face even though Evander is my all time favorite fighter, everybody knows he lost there, the rematch I thought he won either way the man has still done pretty darn well since, was able to beat Ruiz at least twice.

He was able to beat Rahman in a fight that was pretty damn exciting, and his performance against Valuev I was amazed at how easy he made it look for an old man, a fight I thought he did win

I remember thinking Evander was past his best when he fought Lewis. He didnt have that same spring in his step but still possessed an iron chin
