many people talk about the prime holy of 1991 but i dont reckon that was his peak as heavyweight. i felt the evander of the bowe fight in 1993 was his peak he showed everything in that and maintained his discipline. he wouldnt get into any pointless exchanges. the holy of 84-92's biggest weakness was that he loved to scrap too much
Evander reminds me of a better B-hop. I find it hard to guage his prime as he switched his style to suit his needs against his opponent and what they could trouble him with. I think his mental peak was bowe as you said he did everything he needed to do and avoid what he wanted to do. His performace peak was probably against bowe or his war with Qawi (depends what you were more impressed with). His physical peak was probably down at cruiserweight.
Leave it here. Evander has relevance to Lennox, who was a British fighter. So many people have an axe to grind with Lennox over fighting a faded version, even though there wasn't a great window of opportunity for the fight to be made prior to when it actually was. We musn't forget that titles counted much more a decade ago.
I think Holyfield had many peaks and valleys in fact he was pretty unpredictable. Personally I feel he peaked at his very best when he beat Bowe in '93, had a little wobble and everyone expected 'game over' after the third Bowe fight then had another peak when he beat (an admittedly past his prime) Tyson in '96. I agree his scrapping was a weakness but without that he wouldnt have been so exciting, loveable and fun to watch.
