Just rewatched the fight and this is how I had it...

Round 1 - Lewis - Quiet opener little to seperate the two but 2 uppercuts from Lewis gives him the edge.

Round 2 - Lewis - Lewis dominates behind the jab like in the first fight. Holyfield unable to get his punches off.

Round 3 - Lewis - Lewis lets his hands go and lands a good uppercut and a nice right hand. He continues to dominate with the jab but Holyfield finally starts to throw in the final 30 seconds and land a nice right hand and a counter left hook in the dying seconds. But to little too late.

Round 4 - Holyfield - Lewis more cautious and both miss alot early. Lewis starts to land the jab and lands a decent right. Holyfield busier than before and a nice right hand in the final seconds could give him the edge in a close round.

Round 5 - Holyfield - Holyfield starts fast and lands a nice left hook. Lewis replies with a right of his own in close. Lewis lands a glancing uppercut and a solid right hand but he is more stationary and is allowing Holyfield to get his own shot off in reply. Holyfields best round so far.

Round 6 - Holyfield - Lewis once again too stationary and now not using his jab enough. Holyfield starts to use his speed and lands nice jabs to head and body. Holyfield is getting inside and is using his head in close. Clear Holyfield round.

Round 7 - Holyfield - Lewis starts fast lands 2 solid right hands and is throwing the uppercut with more regularity, but is being drawn into an inside fight. Both maul each other inside and Holyfield once again using his head. Holyfield lands the best punch of the night a cracking right hand. Lewis replies and forces Holyfield back. Close round but Holyfield landing the harder shots.

Round 8 - Lewis - Lewis starts working the jab again early. Holyfield lands a nice left hook. Lewis replies with a nice straight right, upper cut combo. Lewis starts to throw some nice combo's. Holyfield's workrate suffers as Lewis begins to move more and Lewis lands a two fisted barrage to Holyfields body and wins the round.

Round 9 - Lewis - Both exchange jabs early. Holyfield lands a sharp right hand. Lewis outworking Holyfield but not landing much cleanly. Holyfield lands a nice double jab, hook combo. Lewis lands a huge uppercut as Holyfield comes in and open up with both hands. Holyfield lands a left hook but Lewis fires back. Lewis round.

Round 10 - Lewis - Lewis starts to dominate again with the jab. Holyfield rushes in and lands a right to the body but his being picked off from distance. Lewis controls the round, Holyfield seems to be unable to get close.

Round 11 - Lewis - Carbon copy of the last round. When Lewis moves and jabs, Holyfield has no answers. Holyfield lands a decent right hand counter after taking an uppercut. Lewis opens up and forces Holyfield back in the final 30 seconds. Dominant round for Lewis.

Round 12 - Holyfield - Lewis comes out and looks to trade, clearly not trusting the judges. But Holyfield lands a right hook, left hook combo but his punches no longer have the same snap. Lewis once again fighting Holyfields fight, is not moving or jabbing. Holyfield finally warned for using the head. Little quality from either fighter but Holyfields round.

So I scored it 115-113 to Lewis as I did originally. When Lewis boxed as in the first fight, Holyfield couldn't do a thing with him. When Lewis was more stationary and tried to trade Holyfield was able to rough him up.

I like your scorecard and thoughts, mirror mine fairly closely.

This is one of those fights where, by this point, I know my scorecard off by heart.

    1 Lewis
    2 Lewis
    3 Lewis
    4 Lewis
    5 Holyfield
    6 Holyfield
    7 Holyfield
    8 Lewis
    9 Lewis
    10 Lewis
    11 Lewis
    12 Holyfield

    116-112 Lewis

This is an old saw for some people, it tends to pop up every 6 months or so. And the discussions always end up the same way, with a few support Holyfield but all the rest saying 7-5 or 8-4 Lewis.

I think it comes up because there's some romantic sentiment attached to it, that it would've been the right (especially seen from today with him still fighting) point for Holyfield to ride off triumphantly in the sunset. I was almost as big a fan of Evander as I was of Lewis, that would've been the capper to his career.

But boxing is a hard game, and you don't get extra points for proposed happy endings.
Which makes me even sadder to see him still tilting at windmills today.

Whoever score it for Holyfield in the rematch should never score another boxing fight again. Sure The rematch Holyfield made it close but no way he won it. I have it 116-112 for Lewis.

I watched the second fight but didn´t try to score it. I´m a fan of Lewis and I dislike Holyfield so I may be biased. I thought the fight was close but Lewis probably did enough to take it. I found Lewis to be somewhat unimpressive in the fight and I was somewhat disappointed with him to be honest. I remember Lewis winning and controlling most of the early rounds with Holy taking some of the late rounds. I remember Holy hurting Lewis with a left hook in what I think was the 7th round and Lewis hurting Holy (although probably a bit less) with an uppercut in the 9th, but otherwise neither managed to really shake the other. Holy got some decent bodyshots in in the last rounds if I remember it correctly.

Holyfields statement that he dominated Lewis far more than Lewis ever dominated him is pure nonsense. He can probably say he dominated the round he got that left hook in in the 2nd fight and that´s it. Lewis however dominated the better part of the of the entire first fight.

Not really, because it happens pretty frequently. Fighters become tenative because of the other guy's power.

Mind breaking this down round by round?

I've been on lots of threads with this very topic and once Holyfield fans are asked for a round by round, score they can't come up with one.

So if anyone wants to put forth a round by round arguement that has Holyfield winning, I'm all ears, cause this was a pretty easy fight to score.

I remember watching it and wanting Holyfield to win, and even then when I gave him the benefit of the doubt on ALL the close rounds I can only get to 7-5 Lewis.

    So, let the fun begin.

What I wanna know is whatever happend to that judge from the first fight..Eugene Williams IIRC?? She gave Holyfield Lewis's best round were he backed up Holyfield and had him clearly hurt. She should have been banned from judging any pro fight for the rest of her bent biased life.
