Was Holyfield supposed to fight Wlad in 2007 or 2008

And if he was, do you think he could have pulled off a win vs Wlad at that time?

mismatch at that point in time but 2001-2003 holyfield might have still been too rough crafty and determined for wlad to deal with. Wlad didnt do well under pressure and panicked easily in addition to suspect chin and stamina(when he didnt get to fight his type of fight aka clinch and lean). Holyfield gave no quarter and wouldnt let wlad rest and relax when he wants to, while finding ways to get a rest himself when he needed it.

I recall Evander was expecting a fight and it never came off, was probably a good thing at that stage of his career.

No, Holyfield wasn't supposed to fight Klitschko in 2007 and 2008. I don't recall any talk of that whatsoever.

Klitschko was supposed to fight Povetkin in 2007 and 2008. In 2007, Povetkin was the IBF mandatory. There was a purse bid. The date was set. Then Povetkin pulled out claiming injury (which seemed fishy). So Wlad fought a rematch with late sub-Lamon Brewster instead.

In 2008, Klitschko was supposed to once again fight Povetkin (who was Klitschko's IBF mandatory again). This time, after another purse bid and another date was set, Povetkin's trainer Teddy Atlas pulled Povetkin out and just admitted on ESPN2 that he didn't think Povetkin was ready and didn't think his fighter could win, which enraged Povetkin's managers. So the IBF washed its hands of Povetkin, dumped him as their mandatory contender and Klitschko fought Hasim Rahman as a late sub instead.

Klitschko also unified with WBO champ Ibragimov and then fought his WBO mandatory Tony Thompson.

So Klitschko basically spent 2007 and 2008 trying to make mandatory defenses and unifying belts. Holyfield wasn't in Wlad's plans.

In 2007 and 2008, Holyfield did get surprise title fights with Ibragimov and Valuev. They chose him simply because they could put the fights on PPV in the U.S., which they did. He (Evander) wasn't a top contender in either organization at the time.

Holyfield fought fine. I remember thinking at the time of the Ibragimov fight that Evander was probably a better technician at that time than Foreman was when he was the same age, but George still had the power to stop Moorer. And Evander didn't have the power to stop either Ibragimov or Valuev.

Had they fought, I think Wlad would've dominated Evander with the jab and probably stopped him. So I'm glad they didn't fight.

Thank God neither of those fights happened.

Would have been both pathetic and enraging to watch the shell of a true ATG being pummelled by one of the Bore Brothers.

I wouldn't have gave neither one any credit for beating an antique Holyfield. Lewis beat the last serviceable version of Holyfield

Well probably the last great version, but Holyfield wasnt truly shot until he came back against larry donald, over a year after being beaten by toney, a fight where despite losing he still showed some reflexes and sharpness to catch toney a few times.
A shot fighter doesnt land punches against toney.

I remember shot Holyfield trying to get a crack at Wladimir; can't remember the exact date. Thank goodness it never happened. Holy wouldn't have had a chance and he may have ended up with permanent damage. I also would have given Wlad zero credit for such a win.

Of course there are mongs around that claim Wlad "ducked" 40something Holyfield
