Not in the conventional sense of giving up, but the man practically jumped out of the ring head first to get out of a fight. In saying that he was looking for a no contest which was hilarious. Or against calzaghe crying like a baby about phantom low blows because he couldn't hack the pace. Or Dawson thats another one. I mean if the ref didn't allow Hopkins Amy outs and made him actually fight do you think he would have just quit instead?
No he's not a quitter, far from it. You are just one of many who seem to hate on Hopkins. Bernard Hopkins doesnt get the credit he deserves...no way is ge a quitter in any way, shape or form
You didn't address anything mentioned in the opening post You are not a legitimate poster in anyway shape or form
calzaghe did lowblow him, he cheated outright and got away it, stopping hopkins koing him early and picking up his first ko loss. dawson did actually injure hopkins shoulder, though at what point it happened is another matter. However, hopkins was being dominated by chad, whereas joe barely scraped a draw despite cheating
This. Hopkins isn't a quitter, considering he should've been long retired years ago, but Hopkins at 51 couldn't leave well enough alone and paid the price. That doesn't invalidate his accomplishments over his 25+ year career.
Internet warrior saying a man who fight into his fifties is a quitter. This thread is horrible, look into the mirror. Hopkins was dirty and ******* in general. But is definetly one of the boxing greats. Ped or no peds, rarely you see a man taking care of his body so religiously. One of my favourites in general,ex con who changed his life.
A juicer and a weight bully, sure. A feaster on Turkish cab drivers, definitely. A cheater, yes. A sore loser, yes. A quitter? Yeah, that too sometimes.
Its unfair to call any fighter a quitter. Getting in the ring and putting your health on the line is a major thing. I can understand what you are trying to say even if I wouldnt use the same phrase. Hopkins has had a few fights where he seemed like he didnt want to continue but unless you are in the ring living the moment we cant say. He fell out of the ring against Allen, fell out of the ring against Smith jnr and both those fights finished. Fell down against Dawson and it was over, looked like he wanted to call it quits against Calzaghe and wanted some time out. Was put down in the rematch against Jones and had time out. Still if we are not the one in the ring cant really say. I think Hopkins has had a great career and has been a great fighter who seemed to improve over the years I wonder if Hopkins didnt take some fights until age could be the excuse but dont know if that is the case. Dont think he was a quitter but I understand your question but no not a quitter
Nah I wouldn't call Hopkins a quitter. He fought Echols with one arm FFS. But did Hopkins bend the rules at times? Absolutely.
