when i say pavlik was in it.. he was comfortable & trying to fight his figt.... after the 3rd or 4th round he was completely lost and out of rhythm
Hopkins' rated this as his best performance. "Better than Tarver, better than Trinidad, better than Oscar, better than my defences."
Lookin at that clip of the fight shows me that if Bernard had really fast hands he would have KO'd Pavlik inside 5 and Hopkins has OK power! Bhop is known for his craftyness not speed or power, everything he displayed in this fight amazed everyone!!! The problem with KP is that he is very slow and his punches are very 90% of his punches are predictable!!!
It wasn't a masterpiece because Pavlik was technically abysmal that night and had no answer. Physically, he lacked speed, strength and footwork. Mentally, he had the fight punched out of him by the 4th round and didn't look prepared for a tough fight. For it to be a masterpiece, it'd have to be against a good calibre of opponent. Lacy was better than Pavlik and even though the fights were similar, Calzaghe put on more of a masterpiece. This is more like Mayweather/Baldomir or Calzaghe/Jones than a true masterful performance.
:nono Pavlik was number 1 MW, and had been in the ring with way better opposition than Jeff Lacy. Jeff Lacy's best opponent to date is Jermain Taylor to whom he lost, and his greatest victory was over a 35 Year old Robin Reid. Kelly Pavlik had wins over Miranda and Taylor twice, despite being a against odds against Taylor 1. This content is protected
Lacy didn't have a great resume but he was formidable at 168lbs, something Pavlik wasn't and probably never will be. Look how bad he looked at 166. To go higher up in weight was bizarre and people shouldn't have favoured him.
Pavlik fought above 160 16 times. Pavlik is a big Middleweight and has enough capacity to move up. Dont get me wrong Calzaghe vs Lacy was a masterpiece, definitely one of the best last decade, and I understand people rating it higher than Hopkins vs Pavlik, since Calzaghe did beat a natural SMW in style. But Pavlik being considered way too small for Hopkins is plausible. This content is protected This content is protected
I don't necessarily agree with you but I can see what you're trying to say. I think Pavlik was out of it for all intents and purposes after round 3.
Tend to agree. hop beat him to the punch and bizarrely...outworked him. Lots of fighters could have beat Pavlik that night at 170lbs...
