Was Ike Quartey an elite fighter,is he not elite because he did not get the OFFICIAL decisions against DLH,Forrest,Vargas?

Quartey also took out Vince Phillips with no fuss, a Vince Phillips who went onto poleaxe Kostya Tszyu.

I cant remember if i had him losing to J L Lopez or whether i felt it was a draw, i think! i had Quartey losing narrowly but would have to score it again as it been ages.

I felt he probably lost to Vargas but beat DLH & Forrest.

I heard some say the Oba Carr fight was close but i felt he beat Carr comfortably, Carr just gutted it out and showed a lot of heart.

Anyway is he elite in your eyes, or not?

Yes he is an elite fighter, to compete with elite fighters the way he did is good enough proof that he belongs there. I thought he lost to Forrest and the DLH fight was too close and could have gone either way.

Yeah he was clearly one of the best fighters of the era. I thought he beat Oscar personally. He's one dimensional and doesn't have the widest range of tools in his box, but he's a quality fighter and would do well against any good fighter. I do feel that some of the stuff i mentioned would hurt his standing against history's greats and he doesn't rank as a great fighter for me.

I think Trinidad would stop him, Quartey would be too game for his own good, people under-estimate how much of a death wish that can be. Anyway, he's quality and his jab is like some guy's powershots!

    Absolutely elite.

It's a shame he was too disgusted with the sport - on multiple occasions - to fight throughout all his not only prime but able years.

Elite fighter I believe he can beat a lot of the WW stars of today. Hi showed amazing chin in the last round of the DLH fight. I thought that he was going down but he survived somehow

Elite welterweight for sure. I thought Oscar beat him by a razor thin margin, meaning if it had gone the other way, I wouldn't have had a problem with it. Very good fight.

Quartey would be the best if he would be around today. He is elite.

damn elite. one dimensional but that one dimension was ****ing amazing. possibly best jab of the last 20 years. the only clear loses he took were above his weight. i feel oscar beat him but was ****ing dead even, vargas did take him clearly as did winky. other than that, brilliant career

Elite and world class, yes. Hall of Fame elite, no. There is nothing wrong with being in the Hall of the Very Good, but something special about the HOF.

Exactly. Ike left a lot of money and big fights on the table with his long sabbaticals away from the ring.

Indeed even though it wasnt always his fault, him and Whitaker were supposed to fight sometime at 98 but the fight was postponed a couple of times cause Of Whitaker's drug problems until they decided that it was better to move on and fight someone else.
