Not at all and it would’ve been very sad to see it continue and see Donaire sustain even more damage…
I certainly wouldn't see Nonito hurt, that's for sure - thanks to all for the responses, I gotta watch it again, and more closely, obviously.
I didn't like what I was seeing out of him at all before the stoppage. The freezing up, and staggering, Inoue did some damage and had it been allowed to continue, it would've probably been of the severe ruin his long term cognitive abilities kind. So no, it was a perfect stoppage. I wouldn't have had an issue with it had it come a few seconds earlier.
This reassessment would be a wise move, Donaire was not in the fight at all at the end stage and it is well worth accounting for the age he is and the further (possibly long-term) damage Inoue could've caused in that situation.
Agree 100%. I watched that fight thinking "why in the **** is Donaire trying to brawl with this guy? that's crazy". And only afterwards did I realize - well he's a 39 1/2 year-old bantam with no legs left. What else can he do except brawl? The outcome of the fight was not in doubt by the time it was stopped.
You can't say his legs were gone. Nonito looked good until he got caught with that killshot with 1 second to go.
I should have clarified. What I mean by "no legs left" was that at aged 39 1/2...Donaire couldn't get on his bicycle to keep Inoue off of him. Yes, his legs were still underneath him until the kill shot. THough I think he was already in big trouble before that shot landed.
Nonito is not wired to run. Too much pride. Too much toughness. And countering is his bread and butter. He had to take the risk. Inoue is just a master of distance and was able to land and be just out of range to avoid getting nailed flush.
Good assessment of Nonito. Being a 39 year-old counterpuncher is a bit of an occupational hazard against a guy like Inoue.

Don't let him get to you, son. His doctors at the asylum allow him to post in here; it's considered positive therapy.
