What shocked people the most was the degree to which Lacy was outclassed. Like everybody else said, people knew Lacy had a leaky defense. However leading up to that fight Calzaghe was said to be the most overrated fighter in all of boxing, but he ended up winning every minute of every round. Lacy might have been overrated, but he was nonetheless an undefeated world champion with a good KO record.

Lacy was a fighter waiting to be exposed.

But with that said,Joe's performance that night was a realy good one.

It took a better fighter like Calzaghe to expose him.If it wasn't Joe,it would have been someone else.

Still a good performance by Calzaghe. You cant take that away from him.

I remember that 90% of ESB picked Lacy by ko!

I picked Joe by UD but tought it would be like 115-113 something like that!

I had saw Joe destroy Mario Vite in 6 rounds only!

This is easy. The answer is both.

Lacy was overrated for sure and Calzaghe was several classes above him and I think this kind of bore out in Lacy's later fights were he was against a higher class of opposition (even though he obviously had the severe shoulder injury and other issues his flaws were readily apparent). Had he been close to Calzaghe's class he would have put up a better fight, that wasn't a "styles make fights" beatdown....that was just a total beatdown.

    Both.

I picked Joe to win a UD but expected a knockdown at one point.

He wasn't impressive in his fight with Rubin Williams either. That one just fell through the cracks though because he scored the TKO in the 7th round.

Exactly. Anyone who had actually seen him fight before he fought Joe knew the truth. Those who read about him in his home nation's media or looked up his record thought he was a "Tyson".

I'd be very interested to hear from ANYONE on this thread who has seen Lacy v Sheika but voted that Lacy was a top fighter. I'd like to hear their reasoning for that...

    (let the tumbleweeds begin)

    A bit of both.

Lacey was still the favourite though, and 99% of American and British experts picked Lacey...that's what makes Calzaghe performance even more impressive.

Personally, I saw that he had some major problems in the Reid fight. According to Boxrec it looks like Lacy kicked his ass, but Lacy got to hit him while he wasn't defending himself in an ambiguous break to end the fight. Prior to that, I felt that Reid could see everything coming.

Still, though, I had no idea that Calzaghe would demolish him so completely.
