I had a discussion about this with another poster, and would like to see what the forum thinks on the issue:

Was Juan Manuel Marquez still prime when he fought Manny Pacquiao at superfeatherweight?

    Vote away :good

Not in his prime by your definition of prime.

34 years old in their 2nd fight.

Not prime, but he's still one of the best lightweight fighters out there, even at that age. He also gave Manny all he could handle.

JMM gets away with not being in his physical prime because he really is a very intelligent boxer.

It is hard judging a boxers prime.

People usually just take into account a fighters physical prime and don't pay much attention to a fighters mental prime. e.g. a fighter could be in their early 30's so they will probably be past their physical prime, but the wealth of boxing knowledge they have acquired over the years could mean that the boxer is a better fighter than when he was in his physical prime. Although if the fighters physical attributes have slipped to much then it will not matter how knowledgeable he is as he will not be able to implement that knowledge, i.e. not being able to pull the trigger.

If JMM was past his prime?

Why do the Floydettes proclaim Mayweather's win against JMM as the greatest thing after sliced bread?

Not only was he MORE past his prime, he is also a lightweight. Yet everytime they mention their LOVER, they always mention beating the Pound for Pound number 2 and 3 makes him greater!

Of course not. isnt every fighter in his prime at 34. Lets wait and see how Pac performs at age 34.
