It's interesting Sweet Pea - here's how I see it. If you (somehow) get Jones licked, you got him licked. Because to lick him you have to be faster/somehow neutralise him. If you (somehow) lick Louis, you still haven't licked him. Because he has that lethal punch over shy distance and that is to be valued in many different situations. Peronally, I'd rather "have" Louis' punching ability in any given p4p situation - but Jones punching speed is the superior of the two.
Can't say. I can put it like this: Louis was better at getting there first, while Jones was the better counter puncher. The speed of their hands, i cannot say who wins.
Attention Roy Jones experts. What Jones fights should I watch to get the best demonstration of Roys speed?
I think of Joe as more of the Bernard Hopkins type when it comes to hand speed-decent but not gifted. Roy of course is on a whole other level.
lol @ this nonsense. Roy Jones, weighing 201 pounds against John Ruiz was clearly MUCH faster than Joe Louis who weighed about 205 through most of his career. So save the "Louis was faster P4P crap". A blown up, musclebound Jones was still considerably faster than a lean Louis. And if you are trying to insinuate that all of Jones punches are much more looping than Louis, I'd ask you to look at the right hand he rocked Ruiz with. That was a short, straight right that came faster than any punch Louis ever threw in his life. Also, go check the two punch rapid fire KO of Reggie Johnson. Louis wasn't even known for his speed for god's sake and now some joker on here is trying to claim pound for pound he's faster than one of the fastest fighters ever?? lol. What's next, Sonny Liston was faster than Meldrick Taylor "conception to detonation"
huh? Jones was known MORE for his handspeed than footspeed throughout most of his career. I have seen TONS of Louis tapes and there is simply no comparison between his handspeed and Jones'. The length that old timers will go to to discredit modern day fighters is ridiculous.
Don't get me wrong, Jones does have a sick amount of handspeed. But so does Louis. And my point was that Jones looks much faster because he can move from the ropes to the center of the ring and make a 180 degree turn in the blink of an eye.
If Louis loaded up on the inside you were screwed. You couldnt anticipate the punches never mind avoid them. Louis's fans actualy threw their hats up in the air when he was setting up a finish in close.
