Yes stylistically he changed things a lot. Queensbury rules made it easier to end a fight quickly, and he was the first to really capitalize upon this.
Stylistically and physically, he actually sounds superior to a lot of fighters who came after him. Of corse, without film we'll never really know, but he impresses me alot more than Corbett.
