At least your man enough to admit that's a fight you probably don't win. Unlike most Macho idiots in this world who would be talking about what they would've done lol

Yeah his confidence was affected.. He never took much punishment after that close to what he took with Marvin. Almost as if that one fight with Marvin took a lot out of him. It is surprising since guys like Hearns or Duran took a lot of punches in some fights and came back almost the same years later.. But it just matters how strong a person is I guess to continue at that high level. It would have been interesting to see John fight for his first title at 154. He was never the same fearless guy who bombed out his first 26 guys.
I think he has a place in boxing history. A strong place. In someways John Mugabi is the reason Ray saw weaknesses in Marvin and age and rust and picked Marvin to fight again.. Even though Marvin was rusty and not as inspired to fight anymore, Marvin was still too experienced for Mugabi. I would have loved to see John fight Hilton or another up and coming fighter of the time. I think McCallum or Hearns might have been to much for him still. But a Matthew Hilton or even Buster Drayton would have been a good fight for Mugabi.
