I have always argued that Johnson went downhill rapidly after the Jeffries fight.

He is known to have been considering his retirement after the Flynn fight.

However I think that those trying to argue that Johnson dodged a bullet, are making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Nothing trumps what can be seen in the film and that simply doesnt support you, grant, or senyas reports. Sorry, case closed. If you guys care to continue illuminating your inability to comprehend what you are looking at then please, by all means continue.

Trying to somehow tie this to his fights of Burns, Ketchel, and Jeffries, all of which he fought and dominated in similar fashion is the height of comedy. Comparing to his fight with Johnson, which none of you have seen, a fight in which Johnson broke his arm, is also ridiculous. I the naysayers not wanting to address or go near his fights with Moran or Willard which were against bigger, better, harder hitting guys later in his career when he was in worse shape and which were also one sided well past 10 rounds. God forbid we actual take that into account rather than buy into racist hyperbolic monday morning quarterbacking. Lol. Cracks me up.

I'm suggesting nothing of the sort.I'm saying there are ringside reports that said Johnson was not going all out and also that he could have stopped Flynn if he had chosen to.
Trainer Tom Flanagan said," Flynn should have been dsq'd in the 6th rd."
"There was nothing to the battle but Johnson. In my mind at all times, he had it well in hand and the danger line never appeared on the horizon as far as I am concerned."I heard a lot about the way in which Johnson tired towards the close of the battle, but I am confident its a mistake.Johnson was in superb condition and could have gone the whole 45 rounds without flying the distress signals as some stated".
The Promoter of the fight Jack Curley who had bet on Flynn said," Flynn was beaten fair and square". The referee Ed Smith said."Flynn disgraced everyone and fought a foul battle ,when he saw he was outclassed,he fought as foul as any man could, bringing down the police's wrath.Flynn deliberately tried to lose the contest on a foul when it was plain to him as it was to the spectators that he was a beaten man".He further said Johnson was not holding as much as smoothing Flynn at all stages. He placed his thumbs in Flynn's elbows and simply held the fireman's arms helpless completely blocked. It was not a foul move because Flynn's arms were free in a way and he was able to tap Johnson's stomach and short ribs with both hands but in a way that did not seem to do much damage". "Ultimately, maddened by the fact that he was being checkmated and outguessed at every stage of the contest,Flynn resorted to the most barefaced system of fouling"Smith said he was about to disqualify Flynn when the police entered the ring." " It was the champions battle from the first tap of the gong.He ripped Flynn with a straight left and murdered him with his old right uppercut".

The Omaha World Herald said, "Flynn was battered and beaten at all stages, and evidently attempted to force the refree to give Johnson the contest on a foul".The New York American said," Flynn was bested and on his way out but for Johnson's carrying him". "Ringside opinion was that Flynn would have been nearly cleaned in a short time .On three occasions during the fight Johnson landed from five to seven punches on Flynn's flattened nose is as many seconds.Flynn was groggy and Johnson could have used his famous punch to the jaw with either hand, and put Flynn to sleep".The Chicago Day Book "Jack Johnson fairly played with Jim Flynn". The Chicago Defender"Flynn was a battered and hopeless white hope.He was bathed in blood from head to toe ,with a knockout his inevitable finish."
The FreeMan's TS Andrews" Flynn put up a surprisingly poor fight Flynn made his best showing in the 3rd and 6th rds. However up to the end it was Johnson's battle on points clearly, for he gave the fireman a terrifc beating ,punishing him badly with right uppercuts and left jabs to the face. Some said Johnson seemed determined to drag out the rounds, maybe in order to give the picture people a chance Flynn was at his mercy all along." The FreeMan's Billy Lewis,"Johnson was more secure in his title than ever, for his victory served as a set back for white hopes.Flynn fought like a boy in the hands of his school master".More from TS Andrews of the Free Man,"how anyone who witnessed the battle could figure where Jim Flynn had an even show or for that matter any kind of show against the colored Master is hard to understand".Johnson bet $3,500 the fight would not go into the 11th rd. Andrews again," Flynn stared out rough for he butted Johnson in the stomach in the first round and offered no apology for his action . One thing must be said in favour of the colored man,he fought fair thoughout and never took advantage of the white man".
That enough primary sources for you!
Ketchel was going all out in the Johnson fight, whereas anyone with half a brain can see that Johnson is carrying him.He picked him up and set him back on his feet twice!

    BTW it's SENYA.

If you have the film of the Jim Johnson fight show it to back your point opposed to trying to elude to it .. while your at it confirm what round he broke his arm in with your all encompassing knowledge .. LOL .. as far as better I disagree .. the well conditioned, highly motivated Flynn posed a far more challenging match up for a fat 34 year old Johnson than Moran who threw few punches and took no offense action .. please note where in the "film" Flynn was seriously hurt or looked tired .. you can't because he wasn't .. the fact that you are so adamant in your opinion and fast to label others shows how little you actually know .. nothing new but so boring ..

Im not trying to elude anything. I dont need to attempt to draw pathetic comparisons to a fight held a year and half later that YOU havent even seen. My point is proved by the film of the fight in question. So who is deflecting. Sorry He but Moran was a bigger, younger, more accomplished, and harder hitting hw than flynn was at any point in his entire career. But you wouldnt know that because you are in way over your head, which is patently obvious here. But please, like i said, continue embarrassing yourself with your hallucinatory imaginings that Johnson was on the verge of losing a fight you clearly have never seen more than the 10 minutes of which exist on youtube that you can quickly and lazily search out and which of course has been edited down to the most exciting and competetive parts for easier public consumption. As a self proclaimed filmmaker id think youd understand that concept but i guess the magic of film (editing) has you hoodwinked...

Since he fought virtually one handed after the third round this would seem to bear out his statement that he broke it then.

"When the two men met at the Nouveau Cirque on December19th ,nothing much happened for two rounds .Both were counterpunchers and Battling Jim seemed especially wary.
In the third the champion launched an attack that sent the younger man reeling. Then for no apparent reason,he pulled back. There were cries of Fake! Some customers called for their money back.In fact the champion had fractured his left forearm slamming the challengers head and had to fight the next 7 rounds with just one hand, clinching whenever he could .At the end it was the younger man that was breathing hard." "Unforgivable Blackness" Geoffrey C Ward page 354.

Geoffrey C Ward wasn't even born when the fight took place, so whose account is that?

So, in other words, you have no ringside sources. No proof to say he wasn't tiring with 30+ rounds to go. I get it, now you try to spin it. And you're not convincing anyone who objectively read the reports of the men who were there. You have no account. The Flim on this fight is not detailed. In fact it was poorly filmed and the fighters heads aren't even in the filming in many parts. Johnson was doing a lot of clinching.

I see you quickly ran from the other Johnson reports which are filmed that accurately display the action in the ring with him winning it. It doesn't suit your narrative right now.

You also do not touch my points that Johnson faded vs. Hart, Jim Battling Johnson, and Willard. Maybe you can just say he wasn't great in longer fights where the other guy was game and pressing it later, and the extra weight added did not help him.

The surviving filmed rounds vs Moran and Willard are close. Well not the final rounds vs Willard. Calling Moran a hard hitter? Ha, which ranked contender did he ever knock out? Moran lost, to journeyman like Ross, Tom Kennedy, Fred Storebeck Jim Savage ( KO loss ) Kid Cotton ( KO loss ), Broad ( TKO loss ) long before he meet Johnson. And he lost to more accomplished fighters like Smith and McCarty. He did not earn this title shot, Johnson viewed him as beatable.

Maybe Johnson was tiring and maybe he was about to end the fight right there, that's probably why Flynn attempted to foul out.

The FLIM?I repeat in which fights did Flynn demonstrate he had the stamina for 45 rds? How many 20rds fights did he even see the end of?
of the 35 fights Moran won 31 of them were by ko! Which ranked contenders did Mac Foster or Cleveland Williams ko? Were they not hard hitters?
You're just a racist bigot who never had any credibility to start with. Now with each succeeding day you make yourself more of a joke with your increasingly extreme and irrational views.

How do you know this ? The coverage I've read makes no not of that .. most claim his arm was broken at the end of the fight when both exhausted men wrestled and hit the floor w the 240 Jim landing on top of Jack ..
