Cagey is a sign of potential greatness. Andre Ward , Sugar Ray Leonard , Hopkins , Holmes showed in prime great survival instincts . They refuse to be beat and would use dubious tactics to ensure their survival. Why should Joshua be any different ?
I don't consider him a dirty fighter. The only things he's done that I've thought were a bit out of order have been when he's cracked down opponents earlier on in his career. Obviously lots of other fighters have done the same before but the optics of it are worse when you're 6'6'' 240-250lb and built like a brick ****house. But it's not like fighting dirty is part of his game plan and an integral part of his fighting style like certain other fighters. They're the ones I consider real dirty fighters.
I think he was ok. He knew the old man had power and had him on the ropes so why not spit out the mouthpiece- with the refs approval- to buy another 20 sec. It's a no brainer. It worked.
BTW, spitting out your mouthpiece when you're hurt is hardly a dirty tactic. Not compared to blatantly and repeatedly breaking the rules elsewhere anyway. As a former Wlad fan I can't understand how anyone could accuse AJ of being dirty against him, a man who made the latter part of his career one of the most tedious procession of foulfests the boxing ring has ever seen.
Exactly. Thing is if he hadnt done it people would be saying how inexperinced he is and cant handle himself when tagged. 2 fights AJ has been hurt and both times he got through it and got a 2nd wind. Credit to him.
