Poor Joe doesn’t have any real friends around him who aren’t getting paid to be by his side.

It doesn’t take a member if mensa to work out that facing a guy who smashed you up first time a second time, at that age, isn’t a great move.

David Price lost his soul to Tony Thompson and the same thing has happened with Zhang taking Joyce’s soul. It’s over for him now.

    Where were his friends?

Why does anyone have an ex used car salesman from Wales who talks **** as his advisor?

I do agree. I don’t think Warren did a bad job with Joyce. He got him to become mandatory with the WBO with wins over Dubois, Takam and Parker. Joyce could have had big fights against worse opposition in Chisora and a shot Whyte on PPV and made a lot more money.

What happened to the Queensberry Poland thing? It just magically disappeared.

Warren is a hall-of-fame promoter but he should let George Warren take the majority of control as he hasn’t kept up with the times. The event in Saudi Arabia is only because of Fury and I doubt Warren has much involvement or control.

I know that Matchroom is a different business model, but they are constantly trying to expand to different countries and territories. Even Boxxer have done shows in France and Poland despite being relatively new to the business.

Queensberry seem happy just to stick with the UK and even then it’s been pretty underwhelming since Frampton and Warrington left and retired.

Yes there is this myth going around that Zhang beat Hrgovic. He didn’t. I have scored the fight and if you score you will either have it a draw or a close UD for Hrgovic.

I think even more people now will use the words controversial to describe Zhang’s loss to Hrgovic because it makes Joyce look better. In a bias British media environment no doubt it will carry like a fart in a phone booth.

Joyce lost because he has always got by on his whiskers. He has never been a technician and always been wide open. He went into the rematch with huge scar tissue over his eye…simply not all joined up.

I thought Zhang was hard done by watching live. I don’t know whether I expressed that on here but certainly did to friends who are boxing fans. Did think Joyce would win the first fight though. Second fight heart wanted him to be better but head was saying a similar outcome. He can still be an effective fighter though.

It amazes me that boxers sign with Warren, especially with his shoddy reputation and lack of international ambition. I don’t really have an issue with him because he doesn’t talk endless crap in interviews like Hearn now sadly does and has been doing more of over the last couple of years. Down to pressure I guess and having to over sell everything. Fights and boxers who aren’t decent / going to make good waves in the game don’t need constantly over selling. It gets tiresome.

That’s because Matchroom and specifically Hearn have their fingers on the pulse and they want to be seen as the best. Agree with point on George Warren.

I don't think people want to accept that Joe was a nice guy (albeit simple) who was surrounded by rats that were setting him up for a fall. They'd rather believe that it was all just a series of unfortunate accidents. But boxing is a cynical game.

Joyce is 38. He started his pro career late and spent a good few years unable to get opponents. No one wanted a very good amatuer without a big fanbase that didnt generate the money to justify fighting.

Frank gave him the platform and done a good job with him. They underestimated zhang as did pretty much everyone. Joyce didnt have the time on his side that dubois had to build slowly against no hopers waiting for the big shot knowing theres no guarantees in boxing. Taking good fights was the best guarantee joyce could get. Them £600,000 add up.

    Thats boxing for you.
It is like snooker, always look beyond the next shot/frame, ruthless and relentless.
