Was Joyce's Chin Overrated Or Is Zhang Just That Powerful ?

Joyce chin was always overrated but Zhang is a powerful man, so a bit of both as usual.

 

Clearly Joyce's chin was overrated. I'd call that mandible rather questionable now!

Once they crack, they usually don't come back. Joyce is likely to be taking more canvas naps from this point forward.

All chin's are breakable. If a figther does not anticipate a punch, he can't brace himself to take the impact well. Even iron chinned figthters like Hagler could have been ko'd if they walked into punches without bracing themselves.

Joyce has slow reflexes and does not know how to fight a southpaw. He can't see those punches. If Zhang was an orthodox fighter, its quite possible Joyce would have lasted the distance.

 

Chin is still great, but you cannot take that much damage everytime someone hits you.

Joyce's chin was very good, but at the age of 38 you just don't recover from a beating like that last fight in, what, 5 months (not to mention all the other punches he's eaten through his career). Zhang's a massive puncher as well.

I like Joe, but he's a bit of a simpleton and this rematch was a hilariously bad call.

 

He took some.huge shots before the right hand.

 

Dont think anyone on the planet takes that KO shot without hitting the canvas. Joyce great chin but Zhang is his kryptonite

 

Joyce has a phenomal chin like GGG or Canelo, difference is that this is HW boxing, everybody gets Koed if the timing is right/bad, no matter if you Ali or Tyson. His style was always naiv, thinking be could neglect defense by making it up with his chin

 

Zhang is very accurate out of both hands and has decent punching power.

 

This. As great as Hagler's chin was, if he walks right into a Hearns overhand right that he didnt see coming then hes going to the canvas. All chins crack when hit by a power punch they dont see coming. Especially at HW.

 

Joyce has a really steel chin but Zhang has abnormal power...

 

I'd say both. Joyce still has a damn good chin it's obviously better than most in the division but Zhang is a huge puncher. I'd argue he's the biggest puncher in the division, move over Wilder, Zhang is the new KO King.

 

Even though 75% of us had Zhang beating Hrgovic you have to admit that Hrogivic's chin looks increasingly solid after these two fights. That's what makes me do a double take on Joyce's, Hrgovic ate a lot of shots and was nowhere near as wobbled as Joyce these two fights.
