Was Juan Manuel Marquez "Ducked"

i agree, he's an high risk, low reward fight, that's why many fighters ducked him.

 

No body ducked him....High risk, low reward. If the moneys is not right, there's no fight.

 

There are some fighter with an alleged reputation of being "ducked" yet would not even fight their mandatories or at least the top 5 in their organization's division. Assuming that everybody is ducking him, why then would he fight the hopeless opponents in Jaca, Salido, Polo, Jandaeng.

Same thing can be said of Guzman. He had been champion for several years yet had to fight Davis for his defense when Davis was just the number 8 or 15 ranked WBO (unranked by WBC or IBF a that time). Is there no fighter ranked from 2-5 inthe diivision or at least a mandatory? If Pac, EM, MAB or Valero would not fight him, other fighters like mosqueda or Humberto soto were available at that time.

Considering that they are beltholders,their defense resume is attrocious. It was only in their last 1-2 fights that a semblance of fighting a "living" boxer can be gleamed.

 

Get a little more informed before you post. As many posts as you have its hard to believe your one of those that thinks he ducked Pac for John.

THEN HE WENT TO GO FIGHT CHRIS JOHN.

To the opening thread yes JMM was ducked by the other 2 great featherweights. Morales and Barrera.
I remember hearing something about Morales wanting to face Pac instead of JMM. Not sure all the details on that one.
Then MAB ducked him earlier on in his career. It was on boxlatino.com
He simply just said he did not want to fight him.

I feel sad for him since he could have very well beaten all the 3 of the great featherweights of our era. Well IMO he already beat Pac twice and of course MAB. MOrales would have been a hell of a fight too. Its hard to pick against MOrales being one of his biggest fans but JMM is just one of the best pure technical boxers to lace them up.

Those four fighters you mentioned are actually decent fighters to have defenses against. If you throw Chris John in there and you look at their records they had a combined record of 147-15-7. 8 of those losses belonged to Salido. Otherwise that record of opposition would look much better.

If he had fought guys like Mosquera and Soto he still would be where he is. Although Soto is a very decent fighter but very underrated.

I think its obvious to those that followed the featherweights way back to when Hamed was being hyped, know that Hamed actually petitioned the belt orginization so that his mandatory (JMM) could be bypassed.
.....its sad what HBO has come too, they've long criticized boxing orginizations about influence and corruption, but they have been just as corrupt and influential in what types of opponents their cash cows went up against.
For instance, I think HBO preffered a Hamed-MAB matchup. From my recollection, JMM's team finally was offered a fight with Hamed, but according to Nacho Beristein, it was never a formal written offer, and JMM was being given just a few weeks notice, so they had no choice but to say no to the date.......from what I understand and remember, MAB was then offered the Hamed fight, but how convenient that HBO was willing to be more flexible with MAB as far as the date was concerned......
.....just twists like that, that have been thrown JMM's way.....in most instances because JMM was the mandatory, bone offers were thrown his way meant to be rejected.




......and you are absolutely correct Saul, when MAB was given the decision against Morales in their second fight, he immediately vacated the title because he did'nt want to face JMM.
In Los Angeles where I'm from, the spanish newpaper LA OPINION, who regularly has alot of boxing coverage, they had alot of coverage of MAB and JMM because they regularly fought here in Los Angeles.
.....in any regards MAB immediately vacated the featherweight title he won form Morales, citing that 122 lbs was probably a better weight for him. He had gone up to 126 lbs just for the Morales fight.
.....guess what my friends, MAB never went back to 122 lbs and continued fighting as at 126 lbs.

The thing I remembered that JMM was quoted at in LA OPINION, was that when he got word what MAB had said about being more comfortable at 122 lbs, JMM said, "that wont be a problem, I can make 122 lbs, I'll fight him there!"
.....needless to say, there was'nt a response by MAB!:yep

......kinda like the same thing that is going on now with Manny Pacquiao jumping to 135 lbs, JMM has said, "no problem, well fight at 135 lbs!"
....something Manny Pacquiao and Bob Arum have no interest in, despite there rematch selling above 500K PPV, the most for a Manny Pacquiao fight!:deal :yep

Boxing is business! If a certain opponent will give you the HIGHEST PAY of your career. You will say anything to justify you are the WORTHY OPPONENT!!!!

Now, boxers often shift or look for OPPONENTS that they would give them big $$$$ more than anything else. That is boxing sports and business for you.

I'm sure all the 135's will be willing to DROP anybody to fight Pac if PAC will give them the HIGHEST PAY day of thier career!!!!

At the same time, that boxer will have a change to mix up the current #1p4p boxer!

Remember pac has more drawing that any current champs. that is why he can dictate.

Now if JMM only had drawing power then and his camp can offer the biggest pay check of his opponent then I assure you NOBODY will DUCK him!

 

Simply said.. pac is the champ so wait for your turn! JMM had two chances...give others a chance!

Life of JMM does not evolve around pac or does it? :yep

Sad to say, after jmm fighting pac..who else can JMM draw to fight him and give him a likewise interesting pay?! Like I said boxing is a business!

yep. pricing yourself out of a fight is definitely a form of ducking. jmm did it twice with pac and erik.
