Was Judah dehydrated, getting old, or just fought a good fighter?

I think Judah was a little dehydrated, but his conditioning made up for it, mixed with the fact he was fighting a solid pressure fighter, which Judah as we know doesn't like. I felt shades of Cotto/Judah in the tenth round, and was very impressed that Judah managed to tough it out and get the decisions.

For the record, I think the SD was FAIR, but could have easily been a draw.

I never really liked Judah, but couldn't help but respect seeing him keep his composure, act like a pro, and stay on his feet till the end.

    Thoughts?

Judah is well known for being one of the most dangerous fighters early in a fight. I feel that Matthysse planned on taking it easy in the early rounds and pressing later when judah breaks down in the second half of the fight. This strategy let judah conserve more energy so instead of slowing down from the 5th on, Judah slowed down from the 9th on (still not as much as he usually breaks down).

Matthyse IMO is a very good fighter. His KO% is misleading IMO. I don't think he is very powerful. I think he is very skillful and technically sound which had more to do with his high KO% coming out of Argentina. Can't wait to see him agian. He seems to have decent stanima and looked very fresh late in the fight.

Combination of dehydrated and old, but Matthysse isn't very good. Just Zab wasn't good either. Either of them gets beaten by just about anyone in the top 10 at this point, and I'd be surprised if GBP doesn't try to pay big money to feed Zab to Victor Ortiz after that performance.

I've said before that Zab staying with his pops the whole time has stunted his growth. He had P4P potential without the discipline of a P4P fighter.

That time is gone now though. Zab pretty clearly was a few steps slower than he was in the past, and he had trouble pulling the trigger to boot.

I'm talkin about his whole career. He should have moved to new trainers after discipline had become an issue. Roach with judah after the Kosta Tszu would have produced a very different fighter.

Maybe, maybe not. Some guys just don't have the discipline - a trainer can't force someone to have the discipline if they're not open to it mentally.

I don't know about dehydrated since he barely went up after the weighin. He's getting older and Matthysse isn't a mindless slugger, he turned out to be a fair boxer and Judah ...also was never a great fighter to begin with.

Yea I thought it was very obvious Judah was struggling to pull the trigger alot througout the fight.

He managed to a few times after he was rocked out of sheer desperation.

Some guys just age well, while guys who rely on speed usually don't.

Mattysse isnt very good, so Zab was either dehydrated or he is just no longer that good of a fighter. At least not elite.

Johnson isn't a speed fighter like Zab is/was. So aging will generally be more kind to the fighter that never really realied on speed too much.
