Was Kalambay's performance against McCallum the best boxing performance ever?

An absolute schooling of a genuine atg near his prime has got to be up there. Whitaker-Chavez as well.

McCallum-Watson is obviously not as good but still a dominant masterclass against a fine technician

    Monzon-Briscoe II
    Khaokor Galaxy-SK Moon II
    Miguel Lora-Daniel Zaragoza

    All deserve a mention.

Jones Jr over Toney was pretty special.

Nice work. Don't agree with Monzon-Briscoe II though, not as flawless. And if we're taking Toney-Barkley then Sumbu-Barkley deserves a shout out :D

speaking of Sugar Ray, I refer to Roy as the second Sugar Ray

    Pernell-Chavez deserves a mention

    Hagler Sibson

Jones-Pazienza (and a most impressive finish)

Monzon was hurt by a Briscoe punch in the ninth if i remember right that probably prevents it from being a perfect display by Monzon. Agree with Kalambay-Barkley deserving a shout , how about Park-Canto I or Canto-Avelar they probably deserve a shout too hey :yep:yep

Mayweather does deserve a few mentions.

His exhibition against Corrales, and clinic with Mosley spring to mind.

Andre Ward vs Chad Dawson is under rated at the moment, watch how Ward takes the jab away from Dawson.

Maybe not classics, but the modern era deserves a mention here every now and again.

All time I'd plump for Jones vs Toney.

None of those opponents come close to McCallum.

Chad was a weight drained mess.

    Moreso than Floyd-Mosley anyway.

I don't remember Canto getting clocked by the hardest puncher in flyweight history over 15.

Agreed, I'm just taking performances at face value.

Some people will make that same argument for Jones vs Toney.

Canto vs Betulio II is a peach as well.

Being serious for a mayweather inclusion i would go with the Corrales fight.Though Chico isn't a good enough opponent that i would put it on the very top tier of technical boxing performances, he was definitely great that day.

Wonderful control of distance and tempo.

At a push you could argue for MAB vs Hamed

Performance at face value isn't really what the thread is crying out for.

There is no way Toney Is comparable. First and foremost he was a much better fighter than Chad. Also it was a weight he had already fought at. He looked stronger against the quickest and most devastating fighter of the time than Chad looked against a generally non-punching boxer-spoiler in Ward.

Considering how well he handcuffed him and his no.2 ranking and momentum at the time, I'll take my thoughts on Froch's actual ability to one side and nominate that as the better showing from Ward, who is about as good as it gets for one-sided technical displays nowadays.

Marquez-Pacquiao III deserves a shout for 'modern' boxing IMO.

Agreed, Floyd-Corrales was his all round best showing against the highest regarded opponent at the time, even if Chico's reputation was grossly inflated at the time.
