Was Khan's performance an illusion? I take back what I said last night

He's not as good as I thought he was. It's all an illusion. His performance last night had me convinced he's really better than he really is and for that, I must apologize.

I examined his resume a bit more and watch some videos and here's what I found:

    - Khan just may have the perfect style to fight counter-punching southpaws
    - He looked spectacular against Judah, Collazo & Alexander
    - He looked like s*** against Maidana, Peterson, Garcia and Diaz

How does that happen? He doesn't have to worry about the left hook against southpaws, a punch that has knocked him out/down on multiple occasions. He doesn't have to worry about the right hook either, because most Southpaws don't have that punch, except Pacquiao. Against orthodox fighters, he squares up his body more and he slightly drop his hand every time he initiates offense, leaving an opening.

That's why he struggled against orthodox fighters. You put Khan in with Lara and I would not be shock if he beats Lara. Against orthodox fighters with power, you will see a more tentative Khan. He'll seem slower and he'll get hit a lot more...and with that chin, it's always a KO waiting to happen.

    I keep on saying this.
Why do u think he keeps cherry picking southpaws?????

  3. Great observation. Khan was put in this fight just in case the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight fell through. He is a back up plan by team Haymon for Floyd.
He will lose, I hope people aren't drinking the Kool-Aid about Khan and his so called speed.

The funny thing is that Diaz is not as good as Judah or Collazo and Peterson is not as good as Alexander. He looks near unbeatable against all the counter-punching southpaws, but barely won a decision against Diaz.

When Diaz threw that combo that knocked him down, it wasn't anything special. It was a typical combo that landed right on Khan's chin. Khan's problem is that he doesn't keep his chin tucked and he leaves it hanging out. He doesn't keep his hands high enough to protect it either, that's why Peterson had a easy time finding it.

At 147, Brook, Thurman, Porter would all shatter Khan's chin. I'm pretty sure of it now after rewatching the Diaz and Garcia fight.

Except that last night, I made a thread saying that Khan can beat Mayweather and Pacquiao.

How is that an excuse? I changed my mind after some closer observation. Look at this resume. He gets knocked out/knocked down against certain types of fighters.

Maybe not, but he did looked like **** against a mediocre Peterson and a mediocre diaz. He did beat Maidana 8-4, but nearly got KO'ed in the 10th round.

Or the same way for Peterson or Garcia. I'm not convinced until he can prove he can dominate a good orthodox fighter the same way.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Khan has a lot of defensive holes against orthodox fighters. And those holes are still there to be taken advantage of.

Watch Kotelnik and Malignaggi fights then.

Both are boxers, both got schooled. Yes punchers give him trouble and yes he looked **** vs Diaz but the whole southpaw vs orthodox thing is *******s.

Lol you guys bringing up Peterson, who was on PEDs. Really good point

On-topic: Styles makes fight and i would love to see him fight: Thurman, Bradley, Brook, Garcia at 147, Matthyse, Thurman before heading towards a clash with Mayweather.

It's probably best he takes a fight before facing either fighter. He is clearly getting better under Hunter but he needs to be more experienced at WW. This was the first time I've seen Khan look composed, even against Colazo he wasn't quite there. Another fight against a top 10er would convince me he is ready. It would benefit. But time is running out to fight either Floyd or Pac, they are close to retiring and he doesn't want to miss the money train.

Well said on the who he should fight before Floyd or Manny. If there's one person that HASNT earned a mega fight..it's Amir Khan. If he dominates one or two of those names....he deserves to be thrown into the mega fight sweepstakes.

    reminder...

Victor Ortiz fought Floyd from beating Berto, despite being KOed by Maidana a fight or two earlier.

Guerrero fought Floyd from beating Berto.
