In that general time period there were a lot of way more prominent trials: Sacco and Vanzetti, the Scopes ****** Trial and, a bit later, Al Capone’s trial and the Lindbergh baby kidnapping/murder. As for sport-related trials, McCoy would take a backseat to the Black Sox trial, also around this time. McCoy had a degree of fame for making a few movies in addition to his boxing career, but he wasn’t at OJ’s level of celebrity I don’t think. More remarkable to me were his 10 marriages. Apparently he was as charming as he was impossible to live with.
