was kovalev a cherry pick gone wrong for hopkins?

    perhaps hopkins wasn't going for the difficult challenge, perhaps he saw something in kovalev that made him think he could easily school him, that and his over confidence from his last 2 fights against good but not great opposition led hopkins to believe he could pull off a win against a younger harder hitting quality opponent. i think hopkins honestly thought he could avoid kovalevs power and school him even at his advanced age, we all saw what happened and hopkins got it all wrong. hopkins gameplan did not work, he got rocked in the first round and kovalev did not tire. do you think hopkins wrongfully viewed kovalev as a cherry pick or do you think he was honestly going for the biggest challenge out there?

    Not a cherry pick, Bhop was after money which is understandable, Stevenson and Al Haymon were taking too long so he took on Kovalev and made 1 $ million.

    Bernard took his chances...thought maybe he'd see something in Kovalev and take advantage of him in a boxing match...but couldn't pull it off. Sometimes it's small things that make the difference between a close fight and getting dominated. Kovalev was just too much & fought precisely how he needed to.

    Nope.

    I think Hopkins knew he was dangerous.
    He could have defending his belt vs his mandatory and people on boxing forums would say he's ducking Kovalev like Adonis.

    Hopkins too his credit, stepped up and fought the fight boxing fans wanted to see.
    Its why it got such good numbers, 2nd highest watched fight this year?
    Not bad.

    Overconfidence in his last two fights?, wasn't the fight with Shumenov a close one?, how did he get overconfident from that?. Wasn't he a live underdog going in against Cloud?. You're just another simple minded piece of ****.

    No, the fight with Shumenov was not close.

    Some moron had it 114-113 to Shumenov, which was just ridiculous.

    The other 2 judges had it 116-111 which was more in line with reality

    He was going for the best out there. BH has a MASSIVE ego... and I think he half believed that alien chit. I hope now he knows he's human after all. And at 49 he aint the boxer he was at 39! It's as simple as that!
