It's funny because this guy is just making true EE fans look bad. Real EE fans probably are annoyed by threads like this, keep it coming.
Kovalev actually listened to JDJ in this fight and went to the body early. He was more competitive in the inside exchanges than in the first fight, he was the constant aggressor. Overall I thought he was doing well but he just doesn't have the stamina for those hard, physical dogfights where he might have to throw 700-800 punches over 12.
No he's a great fighter. He has deficiencies like all other fighters. He destroyed everybody except Ward. He even beat Ward the first fight. Fact is though his stamina is poor and he's 34 years old now which probably doesn't help.
I mean you guy can continue to psycho analyze all you want. But Ward won with skill and better conditioning. You can be as mentally tough as you want, but some guys are better at getting oxygen to their muscles than others. Kovalev just doesn't have the stamina to outwork a guy like Ward for 12 rounds.
I am not from East Europe. The only boxers right now I am a fan of are GGG who's Asian and AJ, who's British.
You don't have to be from EE to be a EE fan LOL. Don't you know most white Americans like EE fighters more than americans?
Lol typical glory supporters. You be there for your guy in both good times and the bad times. Kovalev was good again tonight and the stoppage was unjust but now he is over rated? Pathetic response. If I had friends like some of you people I would keep my distance from you at all times.
If you think about it, it took him 12 rounds to beat Chilemba, a still green Ukrainian prospect made Chilemba quit and retire. Still doesnt change the fact that Kovalev had his testicles used as a punch bag.
I had Kov ahead. One of the judges had Kov ahead 5-2, 68-65. And then the atrocity forever known as round 8. Yea lets hit a guy low 3 times and then grant a KO to the aggressor.
No Kova isn't overrated it's just that for some reason winning olympic gold, winning the most stacked boxing tournament of the last 20-30 years, winning vs two champions at lhw at different periods of time with large times of inactivity in between isn't enough to get you rated by some.
If anything that video is showing GGG is a tank and has way better punch resistance than Kovalev by a long shot. Jacobs hit him hard as f**k in some of those and GGG didn't flinch. I highly doubt many other middleweights would have taken that hook at 2:16.
Canelo also hit him with some powerful shots that would have knocked out most fighters but GGG didn't even flinch.
Fought on even terms with an ATG for nineteen rounds, and arguably should've gotten the decision in their first bout. No, definitely not overrated. If anything, many people are underrating him now. He was always the true beast from the east of the last few years. Better wins than GGG, who hasn't offered up anything remotely as creditable as Kovalev's showings against a certified great in SOG (regardless of the L's he was handed for his efforts).
First fight against Ward was from 9-3 rounds Kovalev with KD,may be a bit wide for some but still 8-4 with KD,7-5 with KD,6-6 with KD still a victory for Kovalev, but they somehow found 7 rounds to give Ward the victory,it was sad.Kovalev did good the first time around against a dirty clinching guy that tried to headbutt as well. Second fight ? Kovalev didnt believe that he will get the nod on cards this time and he couldnt knockout or knockdown Ward this time and also people got in his head with all the gassing taks and having to go to the body, think this time he really gassed and wasted time with those body attack and achieved nothing, and yet Ward low blowed him in round 2 when Kovalev hurt Ward with a punch, referee saw that one at least. After that Ward decided to just keep punching low all night and the referee was never going to deduct points and DQ Ward so only way out of this was Kovalev to lose by K.O.Kovalev this time was also gassed for real and knew he had no chance to win via points decision or anything. So i think he kinda quit mentally, but not without the help from the referee still.
