No need to get sarcy, you said he was a slight fave with the american press, I was just pointing out it was almost unanimous. As for the British fave, it was posted on another thread not long ago if i find it i will post it, it wasnt G-man-Benn proportions but Lacy was the favourite with the UK press.

lacy certainly made me a fan from that fight, just his attitude between rounds he didn't seem too disheartened, despite what was clear.

a shame he's not really that good

He thought he was Mr big Balls with his brooding and sly comments and thought Calzaghe was going to go down and stay down.Hagler mentioned at the time about Calzaghe being in the top 5 supermiddleweights so what chance did the inexperienced Lacy have? After just 14 fights he wasn`t good enough to fight Calzaghe.

Lacy was monstrously overrated, a product of the Showtime hype-machine, ala post-Holyfield Mike Tyson.

Jeff wasn't overrated at all. He actually had accomplished championship status before he fought Joe. The problem with Lacy is he is easily influenced by people who sound like they know what they're talking about. After Calz, Lacy changed nothing about his fighting style. His defense still sucked and he still doesn't set up his big punches with his jab.

He left his trainer to go back to his old trainer whom he had already left before because he wasn't learning ****. Jeff Lacy got to the Calzaghe fight by being Jeff Lacy. He earned that. No one has taught him anything since he left Ray Milton.

He says he doesn't trust his left shoulder anymore. It might be time to retire then.

Even with the horrible performances his last three fights I'm afraid that he will be the same fighter against JT and it will be boring as ****. Even if somebody gets KTFO.

Yep, he was the overwhelming favourite outside the UK and pretty much the odds-on favourite within. This, 'marginal' favourite claim is utter tripe. Few 'pundits' and sports writers gave JC a chance, whereas many posters here claim that they 'knew all along that JC would win easily'!!!! Damn precious.

The only reason I didn't lose money on this fight is because everyone else in the room had Lacy winning too. Joe had the style to beat Jeff and Jeff didn't have an adjustment to even make it a good fight. Joe C. was just that good.
