Khan's excuse for pushing is that Lamont was trying to headbutt him, but I just don't see it. I'll be honest, the Khan fight was the only time I've seen Peterson fight and it made me a fan. But does this guy have a history of headbutting or anything? Honestly, I just feel like that's his inside fighting stance. A lot of fighters have their heads ducked down like that when fighting on the inside but not to headbutt.
Of what I've seen Peterson doesn't use his head however I think he used it cleverly in this fight. No way was he trying to headbutt Khan, but leaded with his head slightly so Khan struggled to get away from him. Tactics must be applauded, unless he genuinely didn't mean to.
in this fight he was leading in with his head and was being pushed..the ref should have warned BOTH fighters about infringments but decided to just dock khan..shady goings on nuccas
No. He wasn't headbutting. The style that he implemented involved him pushing his head into Khan's chest and face at times, but that happens in boxing. Khan, at the level he's at now, should learn to deal with it and adapt. I suppose I can sympathize with him because the referee wasn't doing him any favours (he wasn't stopping the head from going into Khan's face and he wasn't letting Khan try and stop the head, either), but still, I've seen dirtier things.
No, I don't think so. It's a terrible excuse. How is Peterson meant to go forward in that slight crouch without leading with his head? He's bound to. It's impossible to not do that and Khan should be aware of what he was doing and how to sort it out. Fighters in that style clash heads many, many times throughout fights and you'll notice that if you watch someone like Brandon Rios. He'll constantly be touching heads with his opponent but that's just because he likes to fight on the inside and it's inevitable. That's something boxers have to just deal with because it's not illegal. If Peterson was headbutting, fine, but he obviously wasn't. It's just a cheap excuse. In any interview with Khan, he'll moan about the decision, a reporter will say "it was a great fight and you have to praise Peterson" and then Khan will say "I give him full credit". Well, he isn't doing if he's suggesting Peterson was coming in with his head. He's saying there was some intent to cause injury and I think that's insulting towards Peterson, who fought within the rules, and beat Khan.
I personally didn't see any butts going on at all. I haven't rewatched the fight, but I never saw that as a problem, Khan just didn't have an inside answer, and he provides this as evidence for him needing to push, it really holds no water to me, but if somebody has a highlight of all these butts, I will gladly look.
I suppose you could argue Peterson was leading with his head, but it's impossible not to and it's not against the rules to do so. I think that's what Khan was complaining about, and there are many examples, but it's not illegal at all.
Listen, Lamont is not dirty at all, he's one of those fighters who although has height for the division he doesn't fight tall, he is hunched over when he fights and kind of balls up when he defends, there is no such thing as trying to headbutt, if he wanted to butt Khan then he would have... Lamont decided to do his work on the inside, Khan knew this and since Khan is no good inside he pushed, held or ran as a defense, he grab Lamont around the head numerous times not because Peterson was trying to butt, but because he employed the tactic in the hopes the ref would seperate them and he could reset... There were no intentional headbutts, no accidental butts and i saw nothing resembling a butt, Khan just has no inside game...none and he use whatever he could to prevent Peterson from working inside, he even just stood the in a shell and took punches instead of punching, everytime he got Lamont in a clinch, held his head down or headlocked, he looked to the ref as to say hey reset us... Khan is some bull**** and the only people who don't think he excessively fouled are his fans who were upset he lost, I felt Lamont won 5 rounds (3,4,7,8,10), the point deductions were unfortunate but Khan only has himself to blame he gave the fight away by fighting negatively while holding, pushing and running similar to Dirrell vs Froch and I'm glad he lost...
