I always wandered how a slow handed fighter like Shavers was able to catch Larry with that right that dropped him and watching Holmes vs Berbick he was hit with that punch too often. which heavyweights do you feel were better defensively than Holmes and was he to open to right hands?
But he often got clipped by rights from fighters like Berbick and Shavers was nowhere near as quick as Povetkin.
So in 23 total rounds against Shavers, he's in trouble exactly once, and this proves he was defensively deficient. Got it. Oh, Snipes got him once too? Well it's irrefutable then.
He was as open to them as Lennox was ,thing is Holmes had the ability to rise from being tagged and carry on .

Holmes sometimes was open to the right hand ( Shavers or Snipes ), but once he got tagged with it, he was able to correct the defense. The right hand Shavers landed was a true bomb. 60% of heavies don't get up at all and the 40% who got up are more than 50/50 to go down again, with the ref ready to waive it off. What did Holmes do? He got up with his legs under him, and moved away then put on a clinch. Only a top chin with good recouperation powers could do this
I stand corrected. Holmes must indeed be the only fighter Tyson ever caught with a right, being all susceptible to them and everything. Got me there.
Stupid post....again. let me see is Joshua open to the left hook? Wasnt his nose broken. Therefore he must be open to the hook....SMH
There was a long held belief Holmes was vulnerable to right hands. It seemed every time he got dropped or into deep trouble it was via right hands. Isaac, Shavers, Snipes, Weaver and Witherspoon. He was rarely if ever bothered by left hooks tho Weaver did sandwich a couple of beauties in there. Some astute observers said prior to the Cooney fight that Cooney would be coming at him from the wrong side.
