Holmes said in a televised interview that Tyson wouldn't have been successful in the 70's and Ali, Norton, Frazier and Foreman would be too much for him.

    Was he right?

Holmes changes his tune a lot.
I've seen him sucking up to Tyson more recently in a Q&A event he did with him.

I don't think Tyson would do as well in the 1970s. I think Ali, Foreman, Frazier and a young Holmes would beat him.
Stylistically, Tyson should be too much for Norton though. Norton was a good strong boxer, an awkward skillful fighter, but he wasn't effective against guys who applied more pressure than he did.

Tyson failed miserably in his legacy fights ( Holyfield and Lewis ) and was upset by Douglas.

While he had the talent to do well in the 1970's, he lacked the heart and mind to do well over the course of time.

How exactly was Lewis a legacy fight? What about the Spinks fight?

    Hell

Those guys in their primes may have been too much for Larry, as well.

Holmes benefited from hitting his prime as those guys were either gone or fading.

The statement would have carried more weight if one of those guys, instead of Holmes, had said it.

Holyfield and Lewis tower above Spinks. Spinks was a blown up light heavyweight with a knee brace who never fought again.

I think prime Tyson can hang with pretty much anybody.

    A pity his prime was between 10 and 12 o'clock ;)

He was dead on, from that era, I'd favor Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Holmes, and Lyle over him. I'd give Norton a 35-40 % chance.

Agree. Spinks shouldn't even enter into the conversation.
