Was Leonard`s comeback in `87 the greatest in boxing history?

I was reading the ring magazine during the early 90`s and he suspended for taking Cocaine, but then made a great comeback, Freddy Roach went on to say Tapia was the best fighter in the sport, RIP.

Tyson wasn`t even close to being hurt by Tillis, how many fights had Tapia had at the time Tyson fought Tillis? Did Tapia turn pro in the 80`s?

Tony Tucker was far better than Tillis and beat Douglas, Tyson went on to prove himself to be a well rounded fighter by outboxing the 6'5 steele chinned Tucker, he was far more elusive in that bout than the Tillis or Douglas bout.

    Ewps. sorry folks.

Most disappointing comeback for me was Larry...I was proud of him for not just lasting the distance but actually making a fight against Evander (not just for his age), but losing to McCall was just astonishing to me; I thought McCall's belt was based upon a freak shot, and to be honest I never saw him as a viable champion. I thought Larry had him at several points, but apparently THAT punch from McCall in the ninth round kind of ruined him. A shame imo.

    So, basically OT sorry!

Tillis was the first fighter ever to back up Tyson to the ropes. I'm sure you remember.

BTW Tillis wasn't exactly a joke as a puncher, and he did come out of a couple of clinches just fine up close with Tyson. At one point he traded with Mike with his (Quick's) back to the ropes, and Tillis walked away fine, even jabbed Mike straight in the face.

Sorry I just youtubed the Tillis-Tyson fight again earlier this morning, couldn't resist. This time I had Tillis ahead by two points. Tyson didn't land enough, nor square enough. The knockdown itself was kind of a sham, Tillis was dominating him most of the round (he even smiled at Mike and looked quite steady when the bell rang, so no big deal there).

McCall was an inferior champ that beat a sloppy Lewis but he was favourite to beat Larry who I felt looked poor and out of shape v a lackluste Holy.

I didn't really think much of Tucker's performance against Mike, in fact that fact lowered my view of Tucker's skills in general. He mostly looked like a survivor to me, especially beginning with the fourth round. I don't compare that performance to the Tillis, I'd be surprised if anyone did. Tillis fought to win the whole time.

I think Tucker won 2 of the first 3 rds but then went into survival mode. Probably he felt that Tyson's pressure was getting to be too much, but according to himself he broke his hand. And if we're going to go by Tyson's excuses for Douglas why not Tucker's for Tyson?

I guess we see those fights differently.

I had Holmes ahead after the first eight rounds of both of those fights and thought he looked in great shape. I didn't notice any slacking from EH or OM either. Huh.

Oh well, I respectfully agree to disagree.

Rooney told Tyson to get under the jab and land uppercuts to the body in the fourth, Tyson did just that and it was the turning point of the fight.

There was also a clear difference in Tucker's movement and output.

On the subject of Tyson (and unfortunately OT sorry), how about that sensational right cross-right uppercut combination? Sometimes he'd almost lunge in with the right, then he'd follow it with that uppercut from the heels. What an effective combination, one of his trademarks. He got sooo much leverage into his uppercuts, both right and left.

Pretty sure Tapia had some brutal street fights / fight club tournaments at a dive bar as well whilst banned.

Does **** me off as well that Tapia was banned for 4 years for cocaine, then you have people like Fury around.
