As far as BEFORE the fight... not too many people actually thought much of Lewis vs Vitali. All of the critics were full expecting Lewis to walk through him.

There have been plenty of good heavyweight fights to watch, AFTER the fact... if that is what you mean. There is also fights out there that gain more attention now than Lewis vs Vitali did then.

Lewis vs Klitschko wasn't even "must see" until after it happened. The fight was made at the last minute and people though that Vitali would be as fragile as Wlad was at the hands of Sanders. When Vitali did better than expected, and Lewis was in worse than expected, fight fans were pleasantly suprised with a good scrap.

The last "must see" heavyweight fight was Lewis vs Tyson.

True, although I know at the party I went to for it, people were pretty excited about it regardless. It was viewed as a good fight that Lewis would probably win, against the weaker of the Klitschko brothers. It ended up being one of the best recent HW title fights.

However, the best HW title fights have been Brewster-Krasniqi and Brewster-Liakjovich, IMO. Brewster-Liakjovich is maybe the best losing performance you'll see at HW...Brewster, even in losing, showed more heart than you'll ever see in a HW.

So far, the 21st Century has had THREE great heavyweight title fights...

    1. Lewis-Klit
    2. Liakhovich-Brewster
    3. Maskaev-Rahman 2

    MR.BILL:deal

    P.S.

Laugh if you all want, but Vitali Klit vs, Corrie Sanders of 2004 was NO LAUGHING matter.........

Tyson-Lewis, I remember I was back in highschool and that was the fight all the kids and teacherswere talking about. The fight was hyped perfectly by Tyson, fighters now should take some notes from Tyson, maybe the division wouldn't be so boring if they did.

That fight was depressing in every way. Lewis did what he had to do but it was such a dreadful anticlimax. Of course, those were the days in which I was more naive about Tyson's chances, but I was hardly alone. People have selective memories and plenty of fans and fighters were tipping Tyson to pull the upset.

As it happened, even the KO was a disappointment. But yes; it was a "must see".

    Lewis v Vitali:

Good fight but not great. Merchant certainly enjoyed it but our Ian Darke was not as impressed. Lewis was bloated (heaviest ever) and without a gameplan. He wanted to slug it out (as he said he would do) but Vitali turned out to be no Michael Grant.

Vitali's chin surprised me. Usually guys of that build don't take a great shot.
