Was Lewis vs Klitschko Lennox Lewis's greatest triumph or was it his worst disgrace?

On one hand one could say Lewis got dominated by Vitali in the 1st 4 rounds that he won against Lewis. Vitali made him look vulnerable and beatable. And some say he would have beaten Lewis if Lennox hadn't put a fist sized crater where his eyeball use to be.

But on the other hand one could say that Lennox took the fight on short notice. He was prepared to fight Kirk Johnson, who was not a threat to him in anyway. He came in fat, out of shape and way past his prime knocking on 40. The fact that he beat a prime, fresh, 23 year old Vitlali Klitschko while he was at his worst shape EVER put a great finish to a excellent career.

    Vitali Klitschko vs Lennox Lewis

    THE FACTS

Vitali took the fight on just 10 days notice.

Vitali was clearly winning the fight 4-2 on all 3 scorecards at the time of the controversial doctor stoppage. Lewis barely survived the 2nd round and was out on his feet, he was badly hurt, holding on for dear life, wobbling everywhere and staggering around the ring like a drunk. Lewis was badly hurt out on his feet several times in the fight and was getting outslugged, outworked, outmuscled, outclassed, outlanded and outboxed by Vitali.

    punches landed

    Vitali 156

    Lewis 102

Lewis was exhausted, worn down and hurt from the accumulation of punches and was ready to get KTFO again, he collapsed onto his stool at the end of the 6th round, Vitali was clearly the fresher of the two, he would've KO'd Lewis for sure if the fight had continued.

After the fight, Vitali intimidated the **** out of Lewis and made him look like a *****. The whole crowd cheered for Vitali and booed Lewis.

    Lewis promised Vitali a rematch.

Vitali destroyed Kirk Johnson in 2 rounds and called out Lewis again in the post fight interview. The gutless coward Lewis retired shortly after that fight.

Lewis turned down 40 million dollars for a rematch and retired like a coward because he knew he would get destroyed by Vitali.

Vitali dominated Lewis and scared his ***** ass into retirement.

George Foreman: "Vitali was winning the fight. Lewis got lucky. There has to be a rematch!"

Jim Lampley: "A lucky escape for Lewis who was clearly losing the fight"

Even Emanuel Steward was upset and pissed off at Lewis for blatantly ducking a Vitali rematch.

Lewis is scared to death of Vitali.

Vitali got robbed. The corrupt doctor and ref were on Lennox's payroll.

It should've been a TD win for Vitali.

    Official Scorecards:

    Pat Russell: Vitali 58-56
    James Jen-Kin: Vitali 58-56
    Tom Kaczmarek: Vitali 58-56

    Other Scorecards:

    HBO: Vitali 58-56
    Sky Sports: Vitali 58-56
    Lennox's mom: Vitali 58-56

Vitali wasn't even in his prime yet.

Lewis was 37 when he got his ass whooped by Vitali.

Vitali is 40 and is still dominant HW champ.

Lewis was coming off the win over Tyson. In the Lewis-Tyson post fight interview Lewis stated "I'm like fine wine, I get better with age"

In an interview right before the Vitali fight, Lewis said "I'm at the peak of my powers, I will keep fighting for many more years"

Vitali dominated Lewis and scared him into retirement.

Still kinda hard to fight without an eye. But hey if they would have let it go on Vitali without an eye would be quite entertaining.

How could it be a disgrace, Lewis was far from prime, out of shape and seemingly unmotivated, Lennox neither then or now is highly regarded as one of the best heavyweights of all time, not to mention he did survive long enough in the fight to land punches almost at will although being punished himself he inflicted enough damage on Vitali putting several lacerations on his face and they were pretty hideous cuts, I give Vitali a 10 for heart and will but a 6 for his overall performance for being poor defensively and allowing himself to be battered and bruised by an aging champion who's better days were far behind him...

Not his greatest triumph, certainly not a disgrace.
Vitali dominated the first part of the fight, but Lewis
turned the tides. Throughout his career if Lewis was
getting outclassed technically he would rely on sheer
physical brute strength. Lennox opened up Vitali
with a great right hand, later working the body with
about ten consecutive body shots not to mention
a monster uppercut. Mad Props to Vitali, great chin
that uppercut alone would have dropped many heavies.
That being said, Vitali's esy was grotesque. He clearly
could have and would have possibly lost vision or suffered
permanent damage if the fight went on. Sorry but a 37
year old Lewis stopped Vitali. Lewis is on a higher level
    than Vitali.

Yeah but he was tierd but I still belive that if that the fight couldn't be stopped on cuts. Vitali would have been in serious trouble. Forget hes heart and so on he wouldn't be able to make it out of the fight without 2 eyes.

It was neither of the 2. Yes Vitali was dominating, but the cut was caused by a punch. Therefore the TKO result was legit. I wish there was a rematch and Lennox hopefully would have trained harder for it.
