no. had the fight ended because of the late hits nava took, it would have been him getting robbed. ref was late stopping the action, and he was late resuming it. its the fighters that determined who the best man is.
I feel him but ~~I also sense some hyper-sensitivity and he needs to keep that in check or he'll be screwed. He always seemed super talented in Australia. Probably one of the more naturally gifted Aussie guys alongside Opetaia. But his psychology looks to need some serious work.
I seriously don't get the argument that Wilson was robbed. In fact the ref SAVED time by not taking the time to wash off the mouthpiece that was deliberately spat to the canvas. Then Navarrete definitely wasted a few seconds complaining that the mouthpiece was upside down. At what point did the ref himself waste time.? Should he have disqualified Navarrete for spitting out his mouthpiece? No, that happens once in a while and I've never seen a boxer disqualified for that action....doing it two or three times I've seen a point taken away but not for one time. Should the ref have DQ'd or deducted a point for complaining? No, of course not. Tempest in a teapot IMO, move along, nothing to see here.
The referee counted 4 on the knockdown with :44 second to go in the round and they didn't start fighting until the :21 second mark. So, yes, essentially, that was somewhere around 27 seconds. Navarrete got up, was standing in the corner, turned to listen to his corner and then spit out the mouthpiece. The ref didn't let the corner clean it off but it took about 8 seconds for Navarrete to get it back in his mouth after the ref gave it to him. I don't know if the ref has to let the fighter put the mouthpiece back in his mouth or not but they need to do something. Intentionally spitting out the mouthpiece needs to be penalized in some way. Don't know for sure if Wilson would have stopped Navarrete but this was ridiculous and shouldn't happen.
Best long-count I've seen since Manny Pacquiao v Skinny Hussein. The ref in that fight, Carlos Padilla, came out last year & admitted that he deliberately delayed the resumption of the fight in order to enable Pacman to get additional rest. He was boasting about having done so & was seeking to claim credit for having helped Manny get the win. Put the stop-watch on that fabled long-count & then compare it with the one on the weekend. In both cases, the referees knew exactly what they were doing.
I'm tired of these long counts. Guy went down at .49 and fight resumed at .19. Depends on your definition of robbed I guess
But that was a good KD, that took a lot out of Navarette. Regardless of the count, most good refs will conduct a simple assessment. Walk towards me, hands up, are you ok etc. Which the ref did. Which takes time as well. Add the fact Naverrette spit his mouth piece out, which added another 8 seconds. I don't see it as a slow count or excessive.
Stupid drama. That guy received a hell of a beating, he was beaten to a freaking pulp, and if not for the refereree navarrete would have killed him right on the spot in round 9. Some people talking as if this guy had any oportunity apart from a lucky shot (due to navarrete lack of defensive responsibility) and 3 rabit punches that followed the lucky shot, plus another punch when navarrete had already touched the canvas. Wilson had 25 freaking seconds to finish navarrete off. And what did he do? NOTHING. How many shots did he connect? NONE, literally, he didnt connect even one only freaking punch in 25 seconds. And then you have to come here and read stupid threads like this one. RIdiculous. What your guy should do is to cry less, and to connect more punches (at least one) when the other fighter is hurt.
How was he robbed? Navarette beat the count pretty easily. This isn’t the first time a fighter has spit out their mouthpiece to get extra time, it won’t be the last.
