Was Lloyd Honeyghan’s victory over Donald Curry at welterweight a flash in the pan victory?

You've got the wrong fight. Round 15 of the rematch. Curry dominated the last round and put plenty of pressure on early.

 

Yes he was tired because of the ripping shots to the body from Curry and sustaine dpressure from a stronger fighter. Curry caught a few as he threw caution to the wind a bit in the last stanza and tried to knock Starling out. Starling was definitely in trouble as Curry finished far stronger.

 

On that night Lloyd simply had Curry's number. Honeyghan was the best he ever was in that fight. One of my fave memories involving a British boxer. Shame Lloyd did n't maintain that form.

 

If Lloyd had maintained that same form, I think he would have whipped Starling EASY

Everyone talks how great Starling was but he twice lost to Curry and who was it that beat Curry?

Starling even had problems with Johnny Bumphus and although Johnny was well conditioned, Starling still lost to him.

Now look at the job Lloyd did on Johnny. He didnt give him a chance to breathe and won easily

 

It wasn't his or Dave's choice Akhbar Muhammad held the reins & he insisted he fought That man along with Ray Leonard really caused a lot of Don's problems. Honeyghan was lucky that wasn't the real Donald Curry in there. Credt to him tho he took advantage & won the fight. Shame he didn't have the decency to rematch Don though. He'd have found him a different story

And yet Starling beat HIM DOWN to NOTHING even telling everyone how the fight would go.

Simon Brown - Starling best him.
Tommy Ayers - Starling beat Him
Lupe Aquino - Starling beat him.
Mark Breland - Starling beat him.

Those are three world champions and Starling beat them all.
Breland bounced Honey off the canvas how many times?
Brown would have taken Lloyds head off.

Losing to Breland is proof positive that Lloyd was far from peak form

 

Totally agree. But Breland might have been a bad style match up for him regardless.

 

I can believe Simon Brown but Breland, NO WAY
