Nova was the only title challenger for Louis, that people seem to have given a serious chance against him, apart from Schmeling.

    The article is okay.
But I believe Louis was hampered by bad hands around that time, fighting all those determined challengers on such a busy schedule. So he was probably pulling his punches somewhat.
Ultimately he was still doing a lot of damage and stopping those opponents.
    No fighter is superman.

Hell no,...just goes to show that there were crackpot boxing writers back then too,...fledgling revisionists at work.

I guess it is a clasic case of a fighter only being as good as their previous fight.

    We see it enough today.

Nah you can do that with anybody. Is Julian Jackson an overrated puncher- Thomas Tate took him the full route and was stopped I 2 by RJJ. Duran banged on Edwin Viruet for 25 rounds with no effect while Rosario got him out of there in one round. But then it took Rosario 8 rounds against Nazario who only took Pernell Whitaker a single round. Quick Tills lasted the full route with Tyson but not a single round with Tim Witherspoon, or something.

    It's just yet Olde clickbait.

His wins over Baer can't be taken too seriously considering these fights were literally at the tail end of Max's career, but he was one of only two men to stop Baer, the other being Louis.

He probably would have posed a better challenge had Nova not fought Gelanto.
I can't help but feel he lost a lot in this fight. Would have liked to have seen the Rosenbloom fight.

    Because Louis had unquestionable power.

I have to say, there are times when I do wonder if he has that crushing power he is alleged to have had.
No doubt that he was a brutally effective and excellent all-round puncher, but I do not think he had quite elite level one-punch power.
No doubt not a popular opinion but that's how I see it.

Yeah, he displyed good power sometimes but he also had terrific timing and accuracy. I mean, he bounced several hard shots off Conn's chin for instance before Billy fell.
I don't see it taking a Tyson or Foreman more than two, maybe three well-placed power shots to drop Conn.
But anyway...not saying Louis could not punch, but shot for shot the above two gents for starters I think are a fair bit superior.

For his time I would say he hit very hard,he also wore 5 ounce gloves and beat giants like Buudy and Primo, thats not exzactly a good measuring stick to what real HW's would be considered that had actual skill.I doubt his k.o percentage goes up post 50's.
